Keira doesn’t always sit down to watch television, generally she is more interested in “cooking” in her kitchen, playing with her ponies or dolls or building with her bricks. As soon as Elmo comes on Sesame Street though, it’s a whole other game. You can usually find her about an inch away from the television or cozied up on the couch under a pile of blankets for an entire 15 minutes. She loves Elmo, especially when an Elmo the Musical segment plays. I love Elmo the Musical too, it really promotes fun and imagination. I have to admit that I usually stop what I am doing and watch Elmo the Musical right along with her.
Keira was beyond ecstatic when she found Let’s Imagine Elmo sitting at her table in the sitting room. Her eyes went incredibly wide and she started shouting “Oh! Mommy! Elmo! … Elmo, Mommy!” It was one of those moments you hope for while you have the video camera out at Christmas.
Keira and Ava have a ton of toys and some are great at encouraging imagination, some are wonderfully educational, and some sit at the bottom of the toy chest mostly forgotten. Thankfully Let’s Imagine Elmo wears a few different hats. Literally. He comes with 3 different hats and 4 different modes of play with games, songs and actions to help your little one get in on some of the pretending , just like in Elmo the Musical.
Playful Prince
When your little one puts the crown on Elmo, he pretends to be Prince Elmo and plays a game of “Prince Elmo Says” which involves Elmo giving a command and your child following through. There are three different commands in this game. Squeeze Elmo’s Nose, Tickle Elmo’s Tummy and Bounce Elmo. The game starts off simple but after your child is successful a few times he starts to combine the commands together in order to increase the challenge.
Counting Cowboy
Put on the cowboy hat, and Cowboy Elmo counts up to 20 with your child and then sings a reward song when they reach 20. Keira has been able to count to twelve on her own for awhile now, and with help can get to twenty so this mode has been a lot of fun for her. She loves pinching Elmo’s nose and counting along with him to get to twenty.
Singing Sea Captain
The sea captain’s hat lets Elmo imagine he’s an ocean-going captain, and he’ll start up a sounds-of-the-sea identification game. Both Keira and Ava (9 mos old) really love this particular mode of play. It’s funny but Ava has really taken to Let’s Imagine Elmo and especially to Elmo singing the song he sings when you squeeze his tummy at his request. She literally cannot take her eyes off him and will start bouncing around. It’s seriously the cutest thing. Keira loves squeezing Elmo’s tummy when she hears the sounds of the different creatures too, she has learned about all new animals thanks to Elmo!
When Elmo isn’t wearing a hat, he loves to play by getting bounced, tickled, and having his nose squeezed which makes him fun no matter what. Keira has really taken to Let’s Imagine Elmo and brings him around the house with her. I even caught her sitting at the front window with him doing her most favourite activity ever, quietly watching cars drive down our street.
