Blood Orange Paloma
Shake up a vibrant Blood Orange Paloma with tequila, fresh citrus, and a salted rim – perfectly refreshing and easy to make for any occasion.

This Blood Orange Paloma is a bright, citrus-forward twist on the classic Mexican cocktail.
Swapping traditional grapefruit for sweet-tart blood orange juice adds a striking colour and richer flavour, while lime juice and a splash of club soda keep it refreshingly balanced. It’s simple to make and even easier to love—especially when shaken to a perfect chill.
Whether you’re mixing drinks for brunch, a summer evening, or just because, this Paloma variation is as eye-catching as it is delicious. A salted rim and a slice of blood orange make for a crisp, crowd-pleasing presentation.

Tips for the Best Blood Orange Paloma
- Use fresh juice: Freshly squeezed blood orange and lime juice give the cocktail its bright, natural flavour. Bottled juice won’t have the same punch.
- Chill your glass: A cold glass keeps the drink crisp longer. Pop it in the freezer for a few minutes before serving.
- Adjust sweetness: Blood oranges vary in sweetness—taste your juice first, then tweak the amount of simple syrup as needed.
- Try flavoured soda water: For a fun variation, swap plain club soda with blood orange or lime-flavoured sparkling water.
- No blood oranges? Cara Cara oranges or a mix of orange and a splash of grapefruit juice make a good substitute.
- Enjoy your cocktail and don’t forget to drink responsibly. Cheers!

Ingredients & Substitutions
- Tequila: Blanco tequila works best for a clean, crisp base, but reposado adds a warm, oaky note if preferred.
- Blood Orange Juice: Use fresh-squeezed for best results. Substitute with Cara Cara or regular orange juice plus a splash of grapefruit.
- Lime Juice: Fresh lime juice balances the sweetness and adds acidity. Bottled lime juice can be used in a pinch, but fresh is better.
- Simple Syrup: Use maple syrup or agave nectar as natural sweetener alternatives. Adjust to taste depending on how sweet your oranges are.
- Club Soda: Lightens the drink. You can use sparkling mineral water or citrus soda for a twist.
- Salt: Use coarse salt or a mix of salt and chilli powder for a spicy edge.
- Blood Orange Wedge: A lime wheel or a twist of orange peel works nicely too.
