Face it, we all experience “off” days occasionally. You wake up and you just don’t feel right. You should be ready to seize the day, but you are having trouble even getting out of bed. When you aren’t feeling like your normal chipper self, it can be difficult to procure the motivation to move forward. Difficult but not entirely impossible.
There are several ways to motivate yourself on “off” days, to get yourself moving forward, leaving your mundane mood behind.
How to Motivate Yourself
Take a Deep Breath
If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed with the day ahead it is important to take a deep breath and allow yourself to relax. If you can, take a quick walk, listen to your favourite music or spend time with someone you love. The things that calm you down, should be the things you are doing in this moment. Take a deep breath and move forward, motivating yourself to clear your mind.
Set a Public Goal
If you are feeling unmotivated, a good way to get the motivation ball rolling is to set a goal for the day. Write that goal down, tell it to a friend or family member, and hold yourself accountable to achieve it. When you set goals, you push yourself harder to achieve them, increasing your motivation to succeed, especially if you have told others about it.
Just Get Started
Simply getting the day started is a good way to increase motivation on “off” days. If you have been putting something off, you are procrastinating and that won’t help anything. Once you get over the hurdle of just getting started, you are more likely to keep going to succeed. Whether you feel like it or not, get the ball rolling on your day, you are more likely to see your tasks through if you jump right in.
Give Yourself Something to Look Forward to
Maybe there is a TV series you can’t wait to binge watch at the end of the day, or a special dinner date coming up that you can’t wait for. No matter what it is you are looking forward to, focus on those upcoming events. You are more likely to be motivated to get through the day, if you have something to look forward to at the end of it.
If you find yourself experiencing an “off” day and lacking motivation, always take a deep breath and focus on clearing your mind, set a public goal and just jump right in. It is also a good idea to ensure that you give yourself something to look forward to at the end of the day, it will give you the motivation to get through the day, feeling as though you will be rewarded for your efforts.
