As a die-hard snacker, I was really excited to find out that Dare Foods Limited has newly introduced Boulangerie Grissol® Sweet Thins™, and even more excited for the opportunity to try them out for myself. Sweet Thins are like a dessert-like Melba Toast snack. They are thin, crispy slices of bakery-style loaves that have been baked, sliced and toasted and conveniently portion-packaged.
Sweet Thins™ come in three flavours: Banana Bread, Chocolate Brownie and Lemon Poppy Seed.
With only 80 calories per pack and no artificial flavours, they are the perfect on-the-go snack alternative to actual slices of the same loaves. They are all indulgence with none of the guilt. Seriously, the calorie count of a slice of banana loaf or lemon poppyseed loaf (121 g) from a national coffee house is a whopping 500 calories. It’s not that these loaves are bad, but the portion size is a killer for those of us watching our waist lines and somewhat lacking self control.
Each 17g serving (2 slices) has the following nutritious features:
- Only 80 calories
- No artificial flavours
- No artificial colours
- No cholesterol
- Trans fat free
- Low in saturated fat
The first of the Sweet Thins I tried was the Banana Bread and immediately loved it. The flavour reminds me of the top of a slightly over-baked homemade banana loaf. You really can tell that they are made from freshly made loaves. The banana flavour is very real without that sickly sweet fake banana flavour some foods have.
Next up was the Chocolate Brownie flavour. This one has a deep chocolate flavour and is less sweet tasting than the Banana Bread flavour. I think this is the least favourite of the three flavours but it is still yummy and certainly satisfies any cravings for chocolate.
Last but not least was the Lemon Poppy Seed. Like the banana loaf it tastes just like the top of a Lemon Poppy Seed loaf, right down to the texture of the poppy seeds.
Grissol® Sweet Thins™ allow me to indulge in my favourite sweet bakery-style loaves and satisfy their sweet tooth without having to worry about packing on the pounds. They are pretty much the perfect snack to pair with a hot cup of tea or coffee!

I went out and bought all three. The Chocolate is okay, but more like cocoa, not chocolate, rather excessively crumby. The Lemon Poppy Seed one has an immediate after-taste a little like household cleaner. The Banana Bread one leave an after-taste like too much baking soda.
At 50cents each serving, it's no great loss, I will use the ones I bough, but will not be buying any more.
