  • Everything bagel seasoning
  • Cinnamon sugar for dessert pita chips
  • Parmesan Cheese & garlic
  • Za’atar

When adding seasonings, stir them directly into the olive oil before brushing the chips. When making sweet chips, use clarified butter for a richer flavour. (Regular butter may smoke.)

How to Store Homemade Pita Chips

It’s best to serve these pita chips fresh out of the oven for the best, crispy texture. However, they do store well for a few days.

Once pita chips have completely cooled, store them in an airtight container at room temperature. If stored properly, homemade pita chips will last up to 7 days. For the best flavour and crunch, consume within 3 days, after that they tend get a bit stale.

Can You Freeze Baked Pita Chips?

You can also freeze homemade pita chips for longer storage. Freeze your completely cooled, baked pita chips for up to 3 months in an airtight container or resealable freezer bag. Thaw at room temperature before reheating in the oven.

You can store them past 3 months but I find they start tasting stale past this point.

You don’t need any special equipment to make pita chips from scratch. Just gather a small bowl, a cutting board, a sharp knife, a pastry brush, parchment paper, and a couple baking sheets.

Ingredients for Pita Chips

About the Ingredients for Homemade Pita Chips

Oil – I used olive oil, but you can use any neutral flavoured oil that can handle a 400 degree oven.

Paprika – Smoked paprika will give you the best results, but you can substitute with regular paprika if needed. You can also adjust the amount of paprika depending on how flavoured you want your chips.

Salt – The salt helps to keep the chips from tasting flat.

Pitas – I used pita bread with pockets for thin pita slices that crisp up perfect and quickly. If all you can find is Greek style pita bread, you may have to bake the chips a little longer to get crispy chips as your pita wedges will be thicker. (Greek style pita is a type of pita bread without the pocket.) You can also use whole wheat pita bread if you like for a slightly healthier option. If you are feeling adventurous you could even make and use homemade pita bread for completely from scratch pita chips.

Sesame seeds – Sesame seeds add a nice bit of texture. You can omit if you like.
