Green Virgin Products Review

I am always on the look out for effective products, and it’s always a bonus when they are safe, natural and eco-friendly products.  I was recently introduced to Green Virgin Products, an eco-friendly company dedicated to creating non-toxic products from high quality ingredients that really work.  They also price competitively which makes their products accessible to all.  

They sell Moringa products from the Moringa tree, one of the most nutrient rich plants on the planet.  They also offer the world’s best natural laundry detergent – soap nuts – and a range of other non-toxic, healthy products.  I was sent a selection of their products to check out and share with you including Soap Nuts, Soap Nut & Moringa Bar Soap, mineral salts deodorant and All-Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser.

Soap nuts are a really awesome product.  I had heard of them before but was honestly a little skeptical about their efficiency.  I have been interested in giving them a shot though as they are cloth diaper safe so they would be a great non-toxic, eco-friendly and natural way to get all my laundry clean.  Until now I’ve had to buy two separate laundry detergents as the detergent I use for my cloth diapers is powder and I hate how the powder works on regular laundry loads compared to liquid.

Green Virgin Products Soap nuts are a completely sustainable and natural laundry detergent.  They are the fruit that grow on the Chinese Soap Berry Tree.  The berries are harvested and then dried in the sun.  Green Virgin Products then de-seeds them as the shell is the useful part as they are loaded with an all-natural surfactant known as saponin.    The soap nuts are able to effectively without any of the potentially hazardous chemicals found in synthetic detergents.  They are also easy to use.  Just count out 4-6 soap nuts and place them in the included bag and throw them in the wash with your soiled laundry.  There is nothing else needed as they also naturally soften your clothing.

Not only are they natural though, they are also very gentle.  Gentle enough for use with cloth diapers and for washing a newborns clothing and sheets.

I was the most excited for trying them with my cloth diapers as that is the true test.  I was interested to see how they would tackle not only the stains but the odour as well.  Not only did they come out as clean as they did with my usual detergent, they came out smelling much better than normal.  Apparently soap nuts are actually able to remove odours rather than just covering them the way synthetic detergents tend to do.  I am completely sold!

 

I think we all know by now that deodorant is full of bad stuff and yet many of us (including myself) just keep on using it.   I’ve seen the recipes for diy deodorant, I’ve seen the natural products around and yet I stick with the store-bought toxic option because it’s just easier and it works.  I was actually really interested in trying out the Green Virgin Products 100% pure, all natural mineral salts deodorant as it didn’t involve any of the mess the other natural solutions I’ve come across seemed to always involve.  Just wet, apply and go.  Easy peasy.  The question though, is it effective?

The answer is a resounding YES! Even after a full day of chasing my girls around I still smelled and felt clean and fresh.

It’s interesting to note that this product is intended to prevent odours completely rather than trying to mask them and it does it without any carcinogenic ingredients, just pure mineral rock salt.  Green Virgin Products explains that “your perspiration, when it first leaves your body is sterile and odorless. When it comes in contact with the bacteria that lives on your skin, the bacteria multiplies, and it’s the multiplying bacteria that causes the odor. The mineral salts deodorant stone leaves a thin film of the salts on your skin and the bacteria can not thrive in the mineral salts environment. Therefore, no odors.”  Truly amazing!

There is no stains on your shifts from this product either, and no gross sticky feel although I don’t recommend shaving with a slightly dull blade and then applying.  It stings, because you know, it’s salt.  Which brings up an interesting fact about this product, it can also be used on small cuts and scrapes as an astringent.  (Who doesn’t love a product with multiple uses!)

It’s also a super cost effective product as one deodorant stone (4.25g ) can last well over 2 years of normal use.

 

 I haven’t used bar soap pretty much from the day I discovered body wash.  I was just so over the tight skin and not-so-great scents.  So when I saw the Soap nut & Moringa bar soap I have to say I wasn’t quite as thrilled to try it as the rest of the products.  Now that I took the plunge and showered head to toe with it?  SOLD!  Seriously.  This is an amazing product, and maybe even my favourite of them all.

The ingredients in the bar are simple: soap nut tea which is made from soap nuts and purified water, coconut oil, Extra Virgin Cold Pressed Olive Oil, palm kernel oil, shea butter, sunflower oil, moringa, sodium hydroxide (lye), and peppermint essential oil.  It is non-toxic and handmade.

The first time I went to use it I was pretty exhausted but needed to get some work done.  I figured if nothing else, the peppermint essential oil would help to re-invigorate me for a couple more hours of work.   Seriously guys, it smells so good and it certainly did help to sharpen me up for awhile afterwards.  I was happy with the nice lather I got.  Often with natural products you don’t get a good lather and while a lather isn’t necessarily key to a good clean, it certainly makes it a little easier to wash up. 

I was a bit concerned after I rinsed off the lather to find my skin had a bit of a waxy feel to it but after drying off it was completely gone and my skin was left feeling exceptionally soft and moist.  So much so, I forgot to moisturize with lotion after!

It does also contain moringa, which is full of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants which are able to work topically to aid skin problems such as eczema or psoriasis.  

GVP Formula 433

 Last but not least, (and I’m not really sure why I don’t have a separate photo of this, ) is Green Virgin Products All-Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser which is a completely non-toxic, carcinogen-free, eco-friendly all purpose cleaner and degreaser concentrate.    It is described as being so safe that a baby could drink it with no ill effects yet it is effective enough for the toughest jobs.

The Ingredients are; purified water, fatty acids, coconut oil, organic alcohol (the alcohol all evaporates during the cooking process), vitamin B₉, minerals and enzymes derived from edible and seed bearing plants.  It doesn’t sound like much which is what makes this product even more impressive!

You are probably wondering right about now how such a simple and natural sounding product could possibly replace synthetic cleaners. 

GVP Formula 433 is made using a proprietary process that results in the molecules of the GVP Formula 433 being about 10,000 times smaller than an oil, grease or dirt molecule. Every one of the GVP Formula 433 molecules also carries a powerful electrical charge with a positive and negative charge on each molecule like a tiny magnet. These grease loving and grease hating charges are able to surround the dirt because of their tiny size and break it up unlike any cleaner before.

There is even a user guide with over 100 uses for this all-purpose product that even details the concentration mix you will want to use for each suggested purpose.  For example, you can dilute the concentration 10:1 to create a safe and non toxic baby wash or dilute 50:1 for an effective flea wash on your pet! I’ve even put it to use for laundry stain removal on stains I thought were washed and dried into the fabric. 

I am really astounded and quite impressed with the quality, effectiveness and of course the pricing of Green Virgin Products.  The innovation behind these products is really something and I can’t wait to try out some of their other products!
