5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Clean

Between laundry, sweeping, mopping and dishes, the cleaning tasks can add up, leaving you feeling overwhelmed. It can be difficult to become motivated when you are feeling over taken with stress. In fact, many people have trouble motivating themselves when it comes to performing these tasks. With so much cleaning to do, it can be difficult to motivate yourself to clean.

There are ways to make cleaning slightly less painless. While it may not become enjoyable there are a few ways to motivate yourself to clean, that will lessen the displeasure you feel about the process.

5 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Clean

1.      Let the Light in

Go around your home and open all the blinds and curtains. Not only does a bright, well lit home feel more welcoming, it will draw more attention to the mess. This will motivate you to do something about it. When the mess is illuminated, it is much harder to ignore.

2.      Put on Some Music

Create a playlist with your favourite and most motivating songs. You will want to make sure that all the songs are ones that make you want to get up and get moving. Not only can music help to motivate you, but it serves as a great way to challenge yourself. Once you put your playlist on, don’t stop cleaning until it’s finished.

3.      Start Small

Starting small is a great way to motivate yourself. Often, all it takes is just taking the first step to help you keep moving. Choose a small task to tackle and once finished, the results will make you want to keep going with other tasks.

4.      Ask for Help

There is no shame in enlisting help when it comes to cleaning your home. Get your kids and your spouse involved in the cleaning process by assigning each family member tasks. When you have help, things will get done faster, motivating you to keep going until the job is done.

5.      Invite People Over

If all else fails, invite people over. This may sound silly, but most people are motivated to at least tidy their homes when they are expecting company. Pick up the phone and invite people over, whether it’s for a dinner party or simply an afternoon coffee, at very least you will be motivated to tidy up a little.

There are many ways to motivate yourself to clean. Open all the curtains, put on some music, start small, ask for help and if all else fails, invite some people over. In no time, you will find yourself motivated to get started.
