When I go shopping for watches I am always drawn to the more minimalist styles. There is just something I adore so much about the timeless and elegant look of a minimalist watch.
When Scandinavian watch brand Nordgreen reached out about doing a review I accepted the invitation. This despite the fact that I’ve purposely stepped back from doing reviews in recent years.
It wasn’t just the gorgeously simplistic design of the watches that persuaded me to agree to a review, it was also their clear dedication to leaving the world a better place as well.
Designed by Jakob Wagner, who has brought Scandinavian aesthetics to brands like Bang & Olufsen, Hay, Muuto, and B&B Italia, it should be no surprise that Nordgreen watches exude elegance, simplicity, and functionality.
I chose to check out the Native Lille, which is the 32mm version of the Native, with a white dial, gold case and white leather strap. The other watch styles for women also include the Infinity and the Philosopher.
I love that they have the 32mm size available in this watch as I have a tiny wrist and anything larger leaves me feeling unpolished. The Native is also available in 36mm and 40mm sized cases.
I chose leather, however there are currently 16 different straps available including vegan leather, mesh, nylon and rubber. There is just a plethora of different ways you can mix and match between watch styles, cases, faces and straps to come up with a Nordgreen watch perfectly styled for your own taste. The straps are also interchangeable so it is easy enough to change up your look.
I made my design choices to create what I think is the perfect everyday watch that is just elegant enough to go from sunbathing at the beach, to running around doing errands in jeans and runners to dressing up for a dinner party.
As I said though, it’s not just Nordgreen’s design that impressed me.
Their Giving Back Program empowers the buyer to choose one of 3 initiatives to donate part of their purchase to in order to actively work towards a more sustainable planet. With each purchase you can choose the cause you wish to support.
Provide clean water – Water for Good will provide two months of clean water to one person in the The Central African Republic with each watch purchased.
Educate the future – Pratham UK provides two months of education to a child in India with each purchase.
Protect the rainforest – Cool Earth will preserve 200 sqft of rain forest in Latin America with each purchase of a Nordgreen watch.
I love that when you purchase a Nordgreen watch you are getting a beautifully crafted and socially responsible timepiece led by the Scandinavian values of Nordgreen.
So what do I think about the Native by Nordgreen?
It is a well-crafted watch with a clear obsession for simple, elegant design. The slim profile and soft Italian leather is very comfortable to wear and the Japanese movement means the time is kept very precise.
I am not a watch afficianado by any means, but I think this is a very well made watch that is worth every penny.
I would highly recommend getting to know more about Nordgreen Watches and exploring their entire collection yourself.
