What else can I add to this simmering potpourri gift?
- Evergreen Tree Sprigs: We have an evergreen that I like to snip small branches from to add to my simmering spices.
- Other Citrus and Fruit: Dried lemons, Limes, apples or Pears would work great.
- Essential Oils: Add one scent like orange or apple to enhance the sweetness.
- Apple juice: When simmering, use apple juice in place of water.

You only need a handful of ingredients to make this potpourri mix. Make sure to use whole spices, not ground. Ground spices will turn into a sludge and you won’t be able to reuse the potpourri.
Fresh Cranberries – You can substitute frozen if using immediately, but use fresh for jars.
Dehydrated Orange Slices – You can substitute fresh orange slices if using immediately, otherwise use dried orange slices. Check out my recipe for dried orange slices to make your own.

Cinnamon Sticks – A warm scent of comfort, cinnamon sticks can be found in the spice aisle at your local supermarket.
Whole Cloves – Adds a sweet and spicy aroma, can be found in the spice aisle at your local supermarket..
Star Anise – Smells of licorice, you can find this in the spice aisle at your local supermarket.
Substitutions for Simmering Potpourri

Substitute one fresh clementine for dehydrated orange slices if using immediately.
What jar sizing should you use for gift giving?

Hello, I really like this gift idea. How far out can you make these? If we put them in the jar how long will they last? I would like to get a head start on my gifts, as I am a college student. Thank you, Jenn
