Heart Hot Chocolate Bombs

These geometric heart hot chocolate bombs are a fun and trendy Valentine’s Day treat for kids, featuring pink hot cocoa with Marshmallows.

Guess what? It’s time to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
I have to admit it’s not something we really celebrate in a typical way.
For my family it is all about spending time with each other and getting cozy.
Think a family movie, lots of blankets, pyjamas and of course mugs of nice warm hot chocolate made from these adorable heart-shaped chocolate bombs.

Why make heart shaped hot chocolate bombs?
These heart hot chocolate bombs are the perfect treat to make for your family for Valentine’s Day! They look really beautiful and are so festive with their bright pops of colour.
I even got my kids involved with making these, they had an absolute blast!

What is a hot chocolate bomb?
Hot chocolate bombs are hollow balls of chocolate filled with marshmallow and hot cocoa mix. You place them in a mug with hot milk or water in order to make a hot chocolate.

The Easy way to use silicone moulds for Hot Cocoa Bombs
Silicone moulds can be a little awkward to use when coating with chocolate. I have found an easily solution to get better control of the mould is to cut the silicone moulds so that each cavity in the mould is by itself. You are welcome.

What Heart Shaped Mould did you use?
To make these geometric heart hot chocolate bombs I used this heart shaped silicone mould from Amazon. It’s such a stunning mould, I absolutely love how these turned out.

What chocolate can I use to make hot chocolate bombs?
You will generally want to use a good quality chocolate that has at least 65% or more cocoa with cocoa butter in it.
These heart hot chocolate bombs are made using candy melts to get beautiful bright colours, but this results in a less rich tasting hot chocolate. I would recommend these hearts for kids – they are very sweet and make a beautifully pink drink.
Adults will want to stick with some of the other hot chocolate recipes I have shared using real high quality chocolate melting wafers.

How to make Hot Chocolate bombs less sweet
Again, I am going to stress just how sweet hot chocolate bombs made with candy melts are. You can offset some of this by using dark hot chocolate mix or maybe even pure cocoa powder.
You will also want to make the hot chocolate with milk rather than water to give it more of a typical rich texture and flavour.

How to use Hot Chocolate Bombs
First, heat up a cup of milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
Then, carefully place the hot chocolate bomb inside your favourite mug.
Next, pour the hot milk over the chocolate bomb slowly.
You’ll start to see the chocolate melting and your fillings should rise to the surface.
Stir and enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Hot Cocoa Bomb Variations
I used a milk chocolate mix and marshmallows, but feel free to get creative. Try these hot chocolate bomb variations:
- Drizzle melted chocolate over the bombs and cover in fun sprinkles
- Add heart shaped candy sprinkles inside
- Use pink or heart shaped marshmallows

How Long Can you Store Hot Cocoa Bombs?
If you use a dry hot cocoa mix, then your hot cocoa bomb will last for 2 months kept in a dry, cool place.
