Tips for Best Results

  • Drain the fruit well. Extra liquid can make the fluff salad runny, so be sure to drain the mandarin oranges and pineapple thoroughly before mixing.
  • Reserve the correct amount of pineapple juice. Whisking the pudding mix with ยฝ cup of the juice helps create the thick, creamy base.
  • Fold gently. When adding the whipped topping, fold it in slowly to keep the mixture light and fluffy.
  • Chill before serving. Refrigerating the salad for at least 2 hours helps the pudding set and the flavours blend.
  • Add Peeps just before serving. This keeps them looking fresh and prevents them from softening too much.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Whipped topping forms the light, fluffy base of the salad. Store-bought whipped topping works best for stability, but you can substitute with freshly whipped cream if you prefer. If using homemade whipped cream, whip it to stiff peaks so the salad holds its shape.
  • Crushed pineapple adds sweetness and flavour while providing the juice needed to activate the pudding mix. Make sure it is well drained, reserving the required juice for mixing with the pudding. Pineapple tidbits can be used if crushed pineapple is unavailable, though the texture will be slightly different.
  • Mandarin oranges bring a bright citrus flavour and soft texture that pairs well with the creamy base. Be sure to drain them well to keep the salad from becoming watery.
  • Instant vanilla pudding mix thickens the mixture and gives the salad its creamy consistency and vanilla flavour. French vanilla pudding mix can be used for a slightly richer flavour if you like.
  • Mini fruit marshmallows add colour, sweetness, and the classic fluff salad texture. If you cannot find fruit marshmallows, regular mini marshmallows will work just as well.
  • Peeps marshmallows are used as a festive Easter topping. They can be replaced with pastel marshmallows, sprinkles, or extra fruit marshmallows if you prefer a simpler garnish.
