Spring Flower Pretzel Bite Variations

Make these with regular M&M’s for any summer celebration

M&M’s usually puts out a special red, white and blue edition that you can use for any American Patriotic celebration. Canadian’s can get in on this too for Canada day as there is usually a red and white special edition available.

In the fall use the red, orange and brown M&Ms for Autumn flowers.

Can You Make Pretzel Bites in the Microwave?

Using the microwave can be faster and easier if you are only making a few pretzel flowers.

Arrange some pretzels on a microwave-safe plate topped with candy melts, and heat until the candy melts are softened, using low or warm heat. The exact timing can vary from Microwave to microwave.

That said, you could also end up burning your pretzels before the chocolate even melts. Which is why I really recommend using the oven method.

Tips for Making the BEST Flower Pretzel Bites

  • You need to work quickly after the candy melts are softened. You can speed things up by sorting the M&M’s by colour ahead of time.
  • You need to use waffle pretzels, and unbroken ones are best although I was able to work with ones that were missing a single corner well enough. Traditional pretzels will not work.
  • If the candy melts get too stiff to work with you can pop them back in the oven for a minute or two. Make sure to remove completed flowers first.
  • You need to press the M&M’s gently enough that you don’t break the pretzel, but firm enough to spread the chocolate underneath them for a firm grip. Even more so with the centre M&M in order to spread the candy melt enough for the petal’s to get a good grip.
  • If you are letting kids help you with this project I would advise transferring the warmed up pretzels and candy melts to a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper laid out on a flat surface.

How to Store Flower Pretzel Bites

Spring flower pretzel bites should be stored in an airtight container at room temperature. They should last for at least 2 weeks. This makes them perfect for making ahead of time.

If you need them to last longer, then store them in the freezer. To freeze, place the pretzel bites on a baking sheet and put it in the freezer for about 15 minutes. Once they have frozen, transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag for long-term storage. They should keep well for up to 3 months.

To thaw frozen flower pretzel bites, simply place the container on the counter overnight. They should be ready to enjoy the next day.

About the Ingredients for Flower Pretzel Bites

*Please note that the amounts listed in the recipe are not exact, but rather to give you an idea for how much of each ingredient you might need.

Waffle pretzels – I got mine at bulk barn, I bought about a pound and used about half as the rest were too broken to work with. It’s better to buy too many just because you will have to deal with broken pretzels.

Candy melts – A single bag of white candy melts was enough for the amount I made.

M&M’s – Pastel milk chocolate M&M’s. You shouldn’t need a full 20 oz for project, but having too many isn’t as much of a problem as running out.
