My brother and his now wife bought a large house from a lady basically looking to just get it off her hands. On the advice of a real estate agent she painted the entire house a “neutral” colour. Except her idea of neutral was varying shades of yellowish-brownish-beige. Let’s just say it was hideous.
The upstairs washroom was the worst, she had even painted the tiles on the wall the same nauseating colour.
They have been slowly re-painting rooms and updating as they go. What a difference even just a coat of paint makes but some paint, a new floor and new furniture can turn a tired looking, kind of dumpy room into the type of room that makes you go WOW!
The first step was to prime over the hideous existing paint, we used Behr Premium Plus Primer and Sealer. The Primer covered the old paint really well which made painting over it easy.
The mantle was also removed to be sanded down so it could be re-painted.
New crown moulding was put up and painted in BEHR Premium Plus Snowy Pine in a Semi-Gloss. Crown moulding in of itself makes such a huge difference in making a room look more finished. Don’t you think?
After an incident with some green paint which we will never speak of again, my brother chose to use BEHR Premium Plus Ultra Home Decorators Collection Grant Gray Interior Paint in a Semi-Gloss finish. He chose to paint right over the green after doing a test spot to make sure it would cover well. (It certainly does!)
My parents were helping with the painting and at this point in their lives they have painted so many rooms that they just don’t need to use green painters tape. It’s incredible how precise they are, and how quickly they can finish the job.
The Grant Gray really covers well and looks so sophisticated in the room, especially in contrast with the beautiful white of the BEHR Snowy Pine painted trim.
We aren’t quite finished at this point though with the room though. There is a surprise coming…
The Finished Room
The mantel painted in the same BEHR Premium Plus Ultra in Snowy Pine with beautiful new crown mouldings, quarter round also painted in Snowy Pine, New Furniture… and a gorgeous new hardwood floor! I really love how this room came together and all the details that really make it pop compared to its previously dumpy and old look.
I can’t wait to hear what you think of the new room!
