Bumps, bruises, cuts and scrapes are all par for the course when it comes to kids and it doesn’t matter if they are 2 or 10 it seems.  I got fairly experienced over the summer with treating minor wounds on my over exuberant and somewhat clumsy toddler.

One of the most critical steps in healing minor wounds is to keep the wound clean of dirt and germs.   Its important you have the right product on hand to treat everyday minor wounds quickly and effectively.  I recently had the opportunity to try out Nexcare Brand’s line of first aid products including their new Tegaderm Dressings.

After Keira recently scraped up her knee when she fell down a walkway I immediately washed the area, applied some ointment and placed a bandage over the wound.  The next day went to change the bandage only to have my husband argue with me about proper wound healing.  He insisted that the wound would only heal “dry”; that is without a bandage on, allowing the area to dry out and form a scab.  I gave in and let him do it his way.  Of course this resulted in a slight infection setting into the wound because a) the wound was open and b) she is 2 years old and was definitely picking at what little scab had managed to form.  After a good soak in some epsom salts I got that wound covered back up in a Nexcare Tegaderm dressing and within a week not only was the infection gone but that wound was completely healed over.

Did you know about the moist healing method?  The type of healing occurs when a wound is covered and sealed with a protective, breathable dressing that keeps the wound moist by containing the body’s own fluid.   It has been shown to enhance wound healing and lessens pain plus it prevents scab formation which can potentially lead to scarring.  The Nexcare Tegaderm Dressings support a moist healing environment which is also the method of wound care used in hospitals around the world.

You can use the Nexcare Tegaderm dressings to treat minor wounds such as scrapes, burns, blisters and even post-surgical incisions or used over gauze as a secondary dressing.  Aside from the benefits of moist wound healing the Tegaderm dressings seal out water, dirt, and germs which helps to prevent infection and can even be worn for up to 7 days!

Tegaderm is just one of many great products to help your family heal safely and effectively.  They also carry many other high quality products for your first aid kit and beyond such as skin crack care, acne absorbing covers, and more!

  1. Tegaderm is the one I’d most like to have. After falling down some concrete stairs I have pretty bad scarring on my legs – I’m hopeful these would have helped and I’d like to try them on my grandchildren for their cuts and scrapes.

  2. I think it would be handy to have the Comfort Brights on hand, the grandkids like colourful bandages for their owies.

  3. We already use many Nexcare products (we’re allergic to the other bandage brands) BUT I’ve never tried the foot cream before! Would love to try that, and the cracked skin care too 🙂

  4. Active™ Waterproof Bandages I work in a kitchen and forever have my hands wet. I’m also a bit clumsier than I’d like to admit.

  5. I would love to try from the Skin Care Line both Skin Crack Care and Advanced Foot Cream. My hands and feet definitely could use some TLC

  6. The advanced footcare cream because I already know they make great first aid items, but I didn’t know they made this as well.

  7. I think the skin crack care would be best for me and my family. We all suffer from cracked dry skin from eczema or psoriasis

  8. I did not know they had an acne line! Impressive! That being said, I would love to try the Acne Absorbing Covers!

  9. I would most like to try Advanced Foot Cream

We spend so much time on our feet, they need all the love they can get.

  10. I would love to try the liquid bandage. Think it would be great for my grandson who can’t seem to keep a bandage on.

  11. Let’s face it my little guy knows to grab the flash light after he hits his head lol so picking just one product…lol, the liquid bandage seems neat.

  12. I would most like to try the Tegaderm™ Transparent Waterproof Dressing, Large Size – my daughter often gets large scrapes/abrasions on her knees when she falls on the playground, and she is also a big swimmer so we need something that she can wear in the water. Last year we struggled to find something that worked and she ended up with a pretty bad infection on her knee at one point when we couldn’t keep the wound covered properly.

  13. I would most like to try the Steri-Strip™ Skin Closures for those small cuts that don’t need a big band aid.

  14. i’m most interested in the Absolute Waterproof Adhesive Pads. I can never find good waterproof products so it wouldn’t hurt to give them a try.

  15. The Active Waterproof Bandages, since it seems like I’m always washing my hands, and that’s usually where my owies are.

  16. I would like to try the coloured bandages. I hate the boring brown kind. If you’re going to cut yourself you should do it in style 😉

  17. Would love to try the Acne Absorbing Covers as recently been breaking out and hoping this will fix those little buggers.

  18. I’d like to try their skin crack care the best….my hands get really dry in the winter and crack and it’s painful and hard to heal.
