There is nothing quite as stressful as that yellow check engine light coming on.  Especially if you are not the most car savvy person or you know.., if you don’t have the needed diagnostic tools for your computer-controlled modern car..  I usually just picture all the money that light is going to cost me.  But no more!

It used to be that you would have to take your car to a mechanic to have it diagnosed but that is becoming a thing of the past, especially for DIY minded people.  Lemur Monitors BlueDriver is a scan device that connects up with your cars OBD2 port to interface with your cars computer to instantly read and diagnose car codes.  What sets BlueDriver apart from other OBD2 scanning devices is that you can do it all from the convenience of your smartphone via bluetooth!  It literally turns your phone into a professional grade auto diagnostics tool.

check your car’s engine performance, examine error codes, turn off a check engine light, and even get an idea if your car will pass its emissions testing.

The free BlueDriver app runs on iOS and Android devices while the Bluedriver dongle will obviously only connect with cars with an OBD2 port.  All 1996 and newer cars have them.  The (free) basic Lemur Monitors’ BlueDriver OBD2 scan tool app lets you scan codes, clear codes, freeze frame a code, check anti-lock brake system (ABS) codes for Ford/GM/Chrysler, view interactive system gauges, and email scan results and logsRead & clear diagnostic trouble codes.

The application provides complete information about the trouble codes which in some cases may be incomprehensible to the average car owner without the help of sites like OBD-Codes.com. If you aren’t particularly handy you can still garner enough information from the tool that you can go to your mechanic  a little bit more informed about what  your car really needs done.

Using Bluedriver is easy.  Just download the free BlueDriver app and plug in the BlueDriver then simply pair your smartphone with the Bluedriver dongle– it’s that easy!   It will even generate vehicle specific information such as code definition, possible causes and repair recommendations.  I love that you can use it to check whether or not your vehicle is ready for local emissions tests.  No more repeat testing and shelling out the fee again and again just so you can drive your car!
This can be a huge money saver and gets two big thumbs up from me!

  11. One of our friends back home had one of these and it was neat to see it tell you what is wrong. It is a nice item to have if your care is not under warranty and you are able to fix it yourself. It also helps you know the mechanic is not pulling one over on you on needed repairs.
