Big Book of Kids Birthday Cakes

Nothing is more exciting to a child than their birthday party, and what better way to celebrate than with an unforgettable, handmade cake made especially for them?

Pamela Clark’s Big Book of Kids’ Birthday Cakes (Sterling, April 2014) offers a variety of creative and delicious birthday cake designs.  Parents and children alike will be able to choose the perfect cake from topics that range from fantasy and adventure to animals and playtime. A section of numbers also enables parents to truly celebrate their child’s special day by blending their new age with appropriate themes, like a race track in the shape of a four and a friendly giraffe that doubles as the number two.

Boys and girls will delight in pouring through the many colorful and playful options as they attempt to choose their favorite. But with so many wonderful ideas—like fairytale characters, elaborate spacecrafts, and enchanting castles—choosing just one is no easy task.

As a child my mom had this birthday cake book full of big colourful, glossy pictures of really cute and great looking unique cakes.  I loved flipping through it and looking at the pictures.  When this book arrived I fell instantly in love.  It was like I was back in my moms kitchen flipping through that book.  Except this one is much, much bigger.

I got a kick out of finding “Little Piggy”, a cake my sister and I had made for my dads birthday years ago.  I wasn’t able to find a good picture of the cake.  Just a tiny phone pic my sister had taken which is unfortunate because she really turned out well.  It just illustrates how easy these cake decoration ideas can be for an amateur to execute.

My favourite cake in the book has to be the “Buzzy Beehive” though, how adorable is this?

Other birthday cake designs include:

•  Comical clowns

•  Stunning scenes

•  Not-so-boring board games

•  And many, many more!
