Materials:

8×10 photo frame
8×10 piece of burlap or fabric
8×10 piece of scrapbook paper to match buttons or bulap
hot glue
buttons – in a colour of your choice (I’m sorry I don’t have an exact amount, but Wal-Mart often has the cheapest buttons.)
wax paper
egg template (printable supplied below)
old toothbrush (optional)

Instructions:

1-Print your egg template and cut it out.  (Click the image above to download & print the pdf.  Be sure to uncheck the “fit to page” or “scale to fit” option in acrobat to get the full size egg.)

2-Place template on a clean flat surface. Cover template with a piece of wax paper. This will prevent the hot glue from sticking to the pattern on the back of the burlap.

3-Center burlap over the egg template.  If you use fabric, you may not be able to see through the fabric, so lightly trace the egg shape onto the face of the fabric with a pencil. Keep wax paper under your fabric so the glue does not adhere to your surface.

4-Begin to cover your egg template. I’d suggest beginning with an outline and filling in the centre after the outline is complete. Once you have the first level of buttons complete, begin with the second level, and finally add a third if you wish to add additional dimension.

5-When finished, I always have “glue string” on my pieces so I use an old, clean, dry toothbrush to remove the hot glue. Gently rub the buttons to remove the excess glue.

6-When finished, (If using burlap) remove the wax paper and template. Place a piece of scrapbook paper behind the burlap and insert your piece into the frame. Put the egg first, then the paper and finally the glass (the egg goes over the glass). Secure your frame and display!
