Family Road Trip Games

Restaurant Race

In this family road trip game, each player chooses a different name of a chain-based restaurant like Taco Bell, McDonalds etc. Every time they see a billboard advertisement, spot their restaurant, hear a commercial on the radio or see a road sign with their logo, they are awarded a point. Set a time limit and the person with the most points when the timer runs out, wins the game.

Would You Rather

This is a simple game where its players are requested to choose between two undesirable things. Would you rather is a generally simple to follow game for all participants. In fact, players should be requested to explain why they chose the way they did to make it a little more exciting. There are some great card decks that are designed to be taken on the go with you, and would you rather has some hilarious questions that will have everyone laughing in no time. Check out this free printable would you rather questions for kids.

21 Questions

This game is excellent for family road trips. Not only is it easy to learn but it can be challenging to guess the correct answer at the same time. To play 21 questions someone thinks of a place, person or thing and the other players have to ask questions to find out what that place, person or thing is. The questioner to guess the item correctly within 21 questions starts the next round.

Don’t Say It

Boasting simple rules, this is another fabulous game for the entire family to play on a road trip. The passengers in the vehicle must come up with 5 words that should not be said during the trip. If someone slips and says any of them, they face a consequence of some sort. The consequences can be anything reasonable like having to sing a silly song. When playing this game choose words that are usually spoken often, this makes it even more complicated to win.

Travel Bingo

Spot objects as you drive along and mark them on your travel bingo cards. First person to get 5 in a row wins. This is such a fun and simple activity that keeps kids happy while you travel. You can buy bingo cards or print out a free printable travel bingo set!

Licence Plate Game

Kids will love to compete with their family members to see who can find the most licence plates from different provinces or states. It’s amazing how quickly time flies by when your kids are actively trying to see all of the passing car and truck’s license plates!  I absolutely love this free printable license plate game set as its the only one I have seen to include both Canadian and American plates.
