I’m now heavily pregnant and hoping for only one more week of this extreme discomfort.   While I’m pretty uncomfortable most of the time, once I hit second trimester I really began to detest bedtime.  As a matter of fact, whenever my husband worked nights I suddenly became very productive when it came to writing and cleaning the house.  Nesting hadn’t even hit me yet.  The hip pain, the back pain, the baby’s insistence on sticking its little feet into my ribs and of course my pillow was getting to the point where it was nearly useless.  That is until about a month ago.

I was sent Essentia‘s Comfort Pillow to try out for myself and I don’t think I need to really detail how quickly I had that package ripped open when it arrived.

Essentia makes the only natural memory foam mattresses and pillows in the world.  Think Tempur-Pedic, only all natural.  Essentia Natural Memory Foam is made using hevea milk (rubber tree sap), essential oils such as grapefruit seed, cone and jasmine essences and water.   It feels like the memory foam we all know and love, but it’s made without any of the harmful petroleum based chemicals found in all other memory foam products.  You spend a lot of time in bed, and both your pillows and mattresses can emit harmful toxins close to your face that you then spend the night breathing in.  I don’t know about you, but I prefer the idea of not inhaling anything harmful, especially during pregnancy and over long periods of time. 

I am sure you will also certainly appreciate that Essentia completely manufactures their products right here in Canada.  The pillows are also breathable and hypoallergenic for a healthy sleep environment and come in variety of different types to suit all sleep styles.

As far as comfort goes the difference between this and the extra firm side sleeper pillows I usually buy is enormous.  My usual pillow lasts about 6 months before it is too flat for me to use comfortable as I am a side sleeper and I have a long neck.  I dislike having my neck at an odd angle all night so I refuse to put up with a pillow that causes that.  So I go through them pretty quickly, aside from the cost of replacing my pillow so often is the fact that it takes about 2-3 weeks to get the pillow to be just right.  I spend the first 2-3 weeks with a literal pain in my neck.  I’m so not a fan of that as you can imagine.  I was actually dreading replacing my pillow prior to receiving the Essentia comfort pillow.

The first night I have to admit I was a little dubious as I did wake up with a bit of a pain in my neck, however, I was surprised when I woke up after the second morning completely pain free.  I can only assume the neck pain was because of the adjustment to a normal neck position from an awkward one.  In any case, one night compared to weeks is negligible.  

I love how comfortable the pillow is (which I guess is why it is called the “comfort pillow”). It is perfect for side sleepers like me but has been designed to suit any sleep-style which makes it a great Christmas gift for literally anyone!

    About the Application of Glues in Standard Mattresses

    Mattress manufacturers use glues to bond the inner layers of mattresses together as well as to bond the fabric cover to the core.

    Adhesives can be rolled to bond each layer or can be diluted in water and sprayed over each surface to be bonded. This second application method allows manufacturers to call their glue a “water based adhesive”.

    A water based adhesive is a simple process whereby water is mixed in with a solvent based adhesive to facilitate spraying the glue over each mattress surface. When the glue dries, all water molecules in the adhesive evaporate and only the adhesive which emit VOCs is left behind.

    The long-term health effects that may occur after prolonged exposure to Volatile Organic Content (VOC) found in Adhesive/Glue solvents include cancers, damage to the heart, liver, central nervous system and kidneys.

    and tell you something i saw that i liked or learned.
    I learned that the average adult requires 7.5 to 8.5 hours of sleep per night. You may have heard someone tell you that they only need 5-6 hours,
    and that they learned to operate on that level of sleep.
    The truth is that at 5-6 hours per night, this individual’s performance on the job,
    and in life are suffering, period!

I like the idea that everything is natural and organic my son and his wife have got a mattress like this now I know why they are both sensitive to a lot of harmful elements in our products and each has different ones and sleep was a problem. A change of mattress when he was young helped a bit but this time I believe they chose the right one.

    – Spring mattresses lose 16% of their support in the 1st year.
    – Memory foam mattresses are similar to couch foam when it comes to durability. Some lose support rather quickly, others feel good for years.
    – Latex foam mattresses can last almost as long as Essentia mattresses depending on their quality.

  256. i love that it conforms to your style of sleeping and really like the hypoallergenic.i have always had problems with pillows being allergic to them.i would wake up with my eyes swelled shut.so i always have to watch what i sleep on.
