When you have kids, it can be difficult to even get a minute to yourself let alone some quality time with your partner, whether that is the mother or father of your children or a new partner you met through friends or a dating site such as eHarmony.ca. But it really is important to make time for this. Here’s how best to do it:
Set specific date nights
Set one evening aside a week for you to go out on dates and spend time alone with your partner. This will of course mean finding a sitter for the children, which could be a family member or friend.
Even if it’s just for a few hours, you will be able to just be a couple again, without the inevitable distractions that come with having children around. If the children are still young they may well object at first, but once they have got used to the routine it will become easier, as they will start to expect it.
Have a date night at home
If getting a sitter is not an option, or your baby is still very young, you can bring date night inside.
Once your baby settles for the night, grab your chance and cook a delicious meal for your partner, or just simply have some one-to-one time over a glass of wine. These moments can be few and far between, so it’s important to appreciate them.
Talk about what’s going on in your lives, say how you’re feeling and show each other affection. This will strengthen your connection and show how much you still care for each other.
Keep things exciting and fresh
While date nights are all well and good, the occasional trip away will work wonders for your relationship, too. It’s important to keep things exciting and romantic in the relationship, so book a spontaneous weekend away in the beautiful countryside or an overnight stay in London.
This gives you a chance to rekindle your love with your partner, especially after a long period of looking after the kids together, or to spend more time with your new one.
If you are a single parent looking to date and just haven’t found any time at all to do so, it is worth looking into online dating sites. This gives you the option of meeting potential partners without having to alter your routine at all, and you can also search for other single parents.
Remember that having kids does not mean a total shutdown in the love department – it just means setting aside some time every so often just for yourself.
