Making your own scrunchies is super easy to do and a great way to get a custom look to match your favourite outfits. You can hand sew these scrunchies or use a machine to make the process a little faster. Either way this is such a simple diy project that any level of crafter can accomplish.

How to make Scrunchies

Supplies:

Printed fabric or plain fabric of your choice
Pencil or fabric chalk
Needle and thread
1/4″ Elastic
Sewing machine (optional)
Safety pin
Scissors

Instructions:

Trace and cut out a 4 inches wide and 18 inches long piece from the selected fabric. You can keep this ratio and cut out wider and longer pieces of fabric if you want to.

Fold the fabric cutout into half width wise, with its wrong side facing out. Stitch or sew along the open end (length). Keep the 2 small ends on both sides open for now.

Turn the right side out through any one of the open ends. Iron the sewed fabric piece if necessary.

Cut out a piece of elastic long enough to stretch and make a comfortable hair band. Grab 2 safety pins. Attach one safety pin on one end of the elastic.

Insert the safety pin attached end of the elastic into the sewed fabric through any one of its open ends. Fix the other end of the elastic with the open end of the fabric using another safety pin.

Draw and pull out the free end of the elastic through the opposite open end of the fabric.

Take off the safety pins from the elastic. Tie a very tight knot using the both open ends of the elastic.

Use needle and thread to stitch the open ends of the fabric to complete the fabric scrunchie. Make sure to fold a cm of the fabric’s open ends inwards while stitching the open ends. Tie a knot or 2 after you’re done stitching and cut off extra thread.
