How to Get the Best Deals on Flights
Most of us in North America rely on travel by air because of the sheer convenience and speed of flying on a plane. Unfortunately, flight tickets can sometimes be costly, especially if you’re travelling during holidays or breaks. Fortunately for you, there are many ways you can save money by getting the best deals on flights. Here are just a few tips you can follow to get the best deals on flights.
Travel Off-Season
Airlines tend to increase prices when they know that a lot of people will be travelling. These price increases usually happen during holidays and school breaks. If you want to get the best deal on your flight, then try to travel off-season. If you absolutely need to travel during a holiday, try leaving a couple days early so that you spend less than late travellers.
Find Deals
There are tons of travel websites on the Internet that are dedicated solely to finding you deals on your flight. Take advantage of this and spend some time searching for deals. Although it can sometimes be frustrating to browse different prices and airlines, in the end, it will save you a lot of money.
Buy at the Right Time
If you want to get the best deal on your flight, you need to know the right time to buy your tickets. Buying your tickets too early or too late can leave you with extra charges and cause you to miss out on some great deals. If needed, talk to a travel agent and discover the perfect time to buy your tickets so that you get optimal savings.
Fly Mid-Week
Most people tend to travel over the weekend or at the start of the week. You can get the best deals on your flight by choosing to travel mid-week. Many times, simply changing the day you depart and arrive can save you dozens of dollars, adding up to great savings.
Fly Out of a Nearby City
Sometimes you can save hundreds simply by flying out of a neighbouring city. Here in the Niagara area of Ontario it is often much cheaper to fly out of Buffalo NY than out of Toronto, even factoring in the cost of parking and gas.
Do you travel a lot? We’d love to hear your tips on flight deals.

If doing this online, make sure you’re still covered if the airline disappears or something similar.
Flying out of a nearby US city works very well for us (I live in Canada) when we travel to an American destination. It can save us hundreds sometimes.
Great tips! Would love to fly to NYC for a little getaway with my husband and I will definitely take this all into consideration.
Useful tips! Since we’re close to the U.S. border, sometimes we drive across and take a flight out of the nearest American city to our destination farther south. It saves a lot of money, plus driving through customs & immigration is less stressful and time consuming than doing it at the airport…usually!
We’ve been travelling a bit more often later and it’s good to know some of these tips. I never even thought of flying out from a neighbouring city to save money. Great idea!
