When ING DIRECT first opened in Canada my parents loved the idea of a bank that could offer no fees, higher interest on savings and no service charges. In fact, they liked it so much that they opened up an account for each of us to start putting our savings into.
Things have changed since then, including a name change to Tangerine but they still offer a refreshing alternative to brick and mortar banks. One of the products that I am pretty excited about is the Tangerine Chequeing Account.
I don’t know about you but the latest slump in the Canadian economy has really highlighted the need to save as much of our hard earned money as we can. You know what really galls me? Seeing all the fees my bank charges me month after month because I’ve given them the opportunity to hold on to my money. The charges really add up but they don’t need to!
With the Tangerine Chequeing account you can change all that. It’ s an online no-fee daily chequing account that actually pays you interest on every one of your hard earned dollars. Plus you still get all the features you’d expect from a regular chequing account including free ABM access at ScotiaBank ABMs.
Switching to no-fee daily chequing takes less time than you think.
I have to admit I’ve been hesitant in the past to make the change. It just seems like such a hassle to get all my bills and pre-authorized payments changed over. Tangerine thought of that too and came up with the Switch Assistant.
The Tangerine Switch Assistant is a new tool that arranged the transfer of your payroll direct deposits, pre-authorized payments and bill payees in as little as 15 minutes. It’s a simple tool to use, and it gives you updates on how your transfers are progressing.
Once you’ve arranged your transfers, with Switch Protection, you can feel confident that in case a transferred pre-authorized payment comes through slightly ahead of a transferred direct deposit, we’ll hold off your payment until 7:30 pm to help give it a chance to clear.
Plus now, You can earn $100 just for switching your payroll direct deposits and making either 1 pre-authorized payment or 2 bill payments by October 31, 2015.
So what are you waiting for?

I would love to switch to Tangerine, but hubby really likes having access to tellers and having that personal touch. I personally don't think it's worth the fees we pay, but I'm still working on him. I think he is almost at the point of agreeing with me!

I've seen commercials on tv for this bank, but in the few seconds they have not much is really covered. I had no idea about all these neat little perks and competitive banking!
I think this might be something we need to look into this a little more. Thanks for the very informative post.
