I’ve only ever owned point and shoot cameras and have never taken photography lessons.  I have always loved taking photo’s though and have always strived to do the best I could with the equipment I had, especially when it comes to photos of my daughter and for my blog.  Now that I have the Canon EOS Rebel SL1, I have the tool I need to work on improving my photography skills and take the most amazing photographs possible.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been playing around with the settings on the camera and with allowing the camera to automatically determine the best settings.  I can’t believe the huge difference in quality when even just using the automatic mode (which makes it as easy to use as a point and shoot).  My photos have a definite clarity and a feeling of real life to them compared to what I was previously able to achieve.  All without having to take lessons or pick up a book.

Last night I was able to to capture Keira’s second Halloween with the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 and I am so pleased with the resulting photographs that I just had to share.

Some of these were taken in sports mode, some taken in automatic mode and some were taken with my own settings.  I think some of these are quite stunning, and all have captured a memorable moment in my daughters life.  My mom tried capturing some photos with her ipad without much such success – mostly just blurry photos since Keira can’t seem to just sit still and pose for photos!

  1. Your Halloween photos are amazing! What an absolutely adorable lion! The shots are so sharp and clear – just look at those eyelashes! Thanks for putting a smile on my face 🙂

  2. beautiful, nicest lion around. The camera certainly took good photos and that seems to be regardless of what setting it was on. Great job.

  3. Lovely piccies there!

When I first switched to a DSLR 2 years ago, I was also astounded at the instant improvement in quality compared to my old point and clicks. I’m not a very good photographer and I usually keep the DSLR on auto mode now, as I find it takes amazing piccies anyway.

In my opinion, DSLRs are a must if you have young kids – it’s amazing to capture memories like these. 🙂

  4. She is so beautiful! The camera most certainly does a good job, I’m jealous of the quality. Hope to win one for myself 🙂
