DK’s Eyewitness Books: Human Body, Shark, and Natural Disasters

DK’s popular Eyewitness series has been the most trusted non-fiction series in classrooms, libraries and homes around the world for 25 years!  The award-winning series is available in paperback, refreshed with new covers, and improved layouts with a better ratio of words to text!

I remember leafing through Eyewitness books from the school library as a child.  I loved looking at the photographs and taking in the wealth of information about a variety of subjects.  I shared a few months ago that the Eyewitness series are now available in paperback and now there is a new title – Eyewitness Amazon to join the growing collection of paperback eyewitness books available from DK Books.

Eyewitness Human Body

Focusing on contemporary and historical developments in the study of human anatomy, Eyewitness: Human Body features clear, age appropriate text, photographs, charts, graphics, and 3-D models highlighting the inner workings of our bodies – from the framework of our skeleton to the millions of tiny cells that make our bodies work. In this updated edition, kids can discover how muscles and joints help us move, find out how x-rays work, see the network of nerves inside the human head and more in a format that makes complex scientific concepts easy to understand.

Eyewitness Human Body is a wonderful book for kids to learn about anatomy at an age appropriate level. I remember as a kid that my parents had a set of Encyclopaedia Britannica volumes and in the one volume there was a series of transparent sheets with diagrams of human anatomy showing the different layers of systems in the human body. I loved flipping from sheet to sheet, it was actually my favourite part of the Encyclopaedias.

My kids have found this book every bit as engrossing, although at 3 and 5 years old they certainly do not grasp everything we have talked about while looking through the book together. It is full of illustrations and loads of information.

Eyewitness Shark

This updated edition of Eyewitness: Shark is an in-depth look at some of the most fascinating and mysterious creatures in the ocean – from the gracious sting ray to the voracious great white.Vivid photographs of various shark breeds including hammerheads, angel sharks, horn sharks, and more combine with informative text highlighting shark artifacts, stories of shark attacks, how a shark detects its prey and more, offering a close-up look at one of the most awesome animals on the planet, their behavior and secret underwater lives.

This is a great introduction to sharks, a topic my 5 year old daughter has shown some interest in. It contains lots of information about sharks from their anatomy to some of the various species and classifications of sharks. It does not go in depth into each and every species of shark – there are over 450 species currently known – but does go in depth into the topic of sharks in general. Perfect for curious little minds.

Eyewitness Natural Disasters

What causes a hurricane to form? Can animals sense an impending earthquake? Explore the dangerous and destructive side of nature – the awesome powers of tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfire, volcanoes and more in the updated edition of Natural Disasters.

My girls are very interested in natural disasters and this book is sure to pique the interest of any child interested in tornadoes, volcanoes, and other natural disasters. It covers everything from earthquakes to disasters caused by human exploitation of nature to infectious diseases. It features diagrams, photos and other illustrations to really bring each natural disaster to life along with plenty of information regarding each one.
