Emily’s Balloon by Komako Sakai #FMEGifts2015

 emilys-balloon

One day, Emily gets a balloon. By the end of the afternoon, the balloon is no longer just a plaything. Emily and the balloon are friends. But when the balloon blows away, what will Emily do? The beautifully evocative illustrations and the timeless innocence of the story make this deceptively simple book a sure classicsweet, compelling, and filled with the wonder and discovery of friendship.

This picture book has a simple, sweet gentleness to it with an illustration style that reminds me of vintage 1960s style children’s books.

The illustrations and brief accompanying text work together to convey the innocence of childhood and the very real attachment to objects that toddlers tend to develop. The way Komako Sakai is able to capture the very familiar gestures and movement of a toddler in such simple illustrations is truly remarkable.

It’s a beautiful story that will remind parents to stop and appreciate the wonder and emotional intensity that young children are capable.  Children on the other hand will enjoy and relate to the story as it is told through the eyes of a child.

Emily’s Balloon is available to purchase from Amazon, and book-stores near you!

Cute, simple books are perfect for the younger ones! When they're just discovering the concept of reading is the perfect time to be reading to them!
