How to Keep Your Punch Chilled

If you are serving this fun drink in a large punch bowl for a large party you will want to make an ice ring to keep the punch cool without diluting it too much.

Use a tube pan or fluted cake pan as an ice mould. Just make sure it will fit in your punch bowl. Ice rings should be small enough that you can easily use a ladle to serve the punch but still big enough that it won’t melt quickly,

Regular ice cubes are an option if you make them from the punch. Otherwise they will melt quickly and dilute the flavour.

You could also use punch without the lemon-lime soda added to make the ice ring so it doesn’t dilute the punch at all as it melts.

For a little creepy fair you can throw some gummy worms or candy eyeballs into the ice ring.

Can you Make Punch Ahead of Time?

Sparkling punches, like this purple people eater punch, begin to lose their fizz after about 2 hours, so don’t add the soda until right before serving. If you aren’t sure if you will run through all the punch within 2 hours, just serve half with the Sprite mixed in.  Refrigerate the remaining punch and Sprite separately until ready to serve.

If you want to make this spooky drink ahead, the best you can do is prepare the punch without adding the sprite or ice. Cover and chill up to 24 hours. Add sprite (and ice if desired) just before serving.

Add Dry Ice for Spooky Flair!

Dry ice can create a spooky, decorative effect when added to Purple People Eater Halloween Punch!

Dry ice is made of frozen carbon dioxide, which is much colder than regular ice. You must use caution when handling dry ice, as freezer burn or injury may occur if touched directly.

Never place dry ice directly in Purple People Eater Halloween Punch when serving children! Instead, fit your punch bowl inside a large cauldron. Pour water inside the cauldron, and add the dry ice to the water in the cauldron. This will produce the desired smoke effect, but the punch itself will not have any dry ice in it.

Dry ice can be tricky to find, but usually can be found at the grocery store. Just ask! You will want about 1-2 lbs of dry ice.

Do not buy dry ice more than two hours before you need it. It’s best purchased shortly before you will use it as it can evaporate quickly. Store the dry ice in a cooler with the lid cracked so the gas can’t build up until ready to use.

If using dry ice in a black cauldron, you could also call this fun halloween recipe “witches brew” as it looks like a bubbly potion.

About the Ingredients for this Alcohol-Free Halloween Punch

This recipe makes about 5 cups of punch, for a full punch bowl to serve a large group you will need to multiply it 4-5 times. Your ingredients should be chilled prior to making the punch for best results.

Grenadine – You want to use the red coloured syrup that is made from pomegranate juice, sugar and food colouring. It has a sweet but tart flavour. Pure cranberry juice would work ok as a substitute.

Blue Gatorade – You could also substitute with blue Hawaiian punch but Gatorade will give the best flavour.

Sprite – You could substitute with 7-Up, or with any other lemon-lime flavoured, clear soft drink. I would not use ginger ale.

Lemon juice – Adds a bit of tartness.

Food colouring – Gel food colouring is the easiest to use, and will give the most vibrant results. It is available in different colours, but you will want to pick up violet.

When I made this punch it was much darker not not very purple, is there a trick to getting the color? I did add violet gel coloring but it was way dark and I wanted the brighter color.

I am confused... The nutrition info says serving size 1 CUP each and this makes 6 cups .. Am I missing something?? I could only count 3 &1/2 cups not counting the grenadine?? Please explain

It was supposed to say 1/2 cup for 8 servings. This makes about 4 cups, not 6. For 6 servings, it is more like 3/4 cup (6 oz) of punch per serving, which is a standard punch glass size.
