Planning my Baby Sprinkle & a Canon EOS Rebel SL1 Giveaway #RebelSL1
As a blogger, but more importantly as a mom, I really rely on my camera to capture everything from my projects (also known as my family’s dinner as it gets cold in front of them) to daughters “firsts”. Unfortunately the camera I have been relying on is a point and shoot so I can’t even count the time times I have been letdown by being unable to capture the shots I need. When I was asked to check out the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 and put it to the test to capture a memorable experience you now there is no way I could say no!
To celebrate my second pregnancy and put the Canon EOS Rebel SL1 to the test I have decided to hold myself a Baby Sprinkle in early November.
What is a baby sprinkle you say? Instead of “showering” the mother with gifts, as in a baby shower, a sprinkle is a light shower where guests either bring small items or are asked to bring nothing but best wishes. Since we have most of the necessities already for baby #2, I am asking for best wishes only and inviting only close family to help us celebrate.
Baby Sprinkles are becoming very popular for subsequent babies so I will be sharing with you afterwards some ideas for a baby sprinkle themed party that I can guarantee you will just fall in love with.
I can’t wait to capture my little, but important, event with the help of Canon’s “lightweight, highly-flexible and easy to use DSLR” – the EOS Rebel SL1. I am hoping to avoid all the blurry photos of Keira’s first birthday thanks to the point and shoot camera! I’m also going to have to give up control and allow my family to use the EOS Rebel SL1 to make sure there are some shots of me too!
I am confident I’ll be able to capture the event perfectly after having played with the camera a little over the last week. Thanks to the continuous shooting mode I was able to capture a pretty gorgeous and crisp shot of Keira in all her milk-face, ketchup packet carrying (?) glory. There is no way I would have been able to capture this with my old point and shoot trying to get one shot at a time of a very Go-go-go toddler. Can you say blurry pictures?

My got my first Canon back in the 70’s and have only had Canons since. My first Canon also had many different lenses available of which I still have and still have my AE1. I learned that Canon has been in business since 1973. I also looked at many features the new Canons have. I like that there are many features for beginners like me.
I learned about scene modes, touch screen- wide 3.0-inch clear view LCD monitor II and love the high-speed continuous shooting — really like those features as I love taking shots of hockey action at my son’s games – but my camera is getting old so it doesn’t seem to respond like I want it to.
When my father, an extremely gifted photographer, started me out in photography as a 12 year old, the brand he chose for me was Canon, for its quality, durability and reliability. I grew to love my Canon SLR and would love to try this new model. I believe it will be every bit as excellent and true as my very first Canon!
I was happy to learn the Rebel has New Special Scene Modes for Kids, Food and Candlelight. My pictures often turn out blurry, the kid mode speeds up the shutter priority. Would love to try it out.
I have learned (from personal experience and not from the website – sorry for not following the rules to a tea!) that the Canon Rebel takes just as high quality photos (if not better) than its Nikon competitors. I was also a huge fan of the Canon Elph series camera, it has been one of my favorites for just taking everyday photos while on the go. It would truly be a dream to win this lovely item!

Something interesting about the Canon Rebel SL1 is the “Movie Servo AF for continuous focus tracking of moving subjects” – one o’ the biggest issues when using an SLP for video is capturing moving objects (often people); many SLRs shut off their auto-focus in video mode! It appears Canon has created a special focus mode just for video.

I learnt that Cannon has just released upgrades for the EOS-1D X & EOS-1D C digital SLR cameras which deliver improved control & convenience. I didn’t know they did that.
I read that it is the smallest lightest SLR camera available , I have never used an slr camera because of their size , but smaller would be great

I love the Canon EOS line – they keep coming out with leading edge innovations in their SLR cameras. Always something new. I see with the SL1, you get a small camera with professional quality features that a non-professional user can appreciate.
My brother just bought the 70D (http://canonfeatures.ca/Interchangeable-Lens-Cameras/Advanced-DSLRs/EOS-70D) and I love that it has built-in wi-fi and can shoot 7 frames per second.

I love everything but if I had to pick one…. it would be the HD video. Remember when cameras did not record video? That is how old my reliable Canon DSLR is.
