Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers launched across Canada today!
I’ve shared before about my oldest, Keira, having to be in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for two months and because of my own experience, I know how difficult and stressful having a child in the NICU can be. There is so much for a NICU parent to worry about, and when you are worrying about literally life and death, you do not want to be worrying about ill-fitting diapers.
Keira was actually between diaper sizes when she was born and she spent her entire time in the NICU wearing “Preemie” sized diapers meant for older gestation babies. This meant we had to fold her diapers nearly in half to get them to fit, and also avoid her umbilical stub, as otherwise they would have covered her entire tiny little body. Not the best solution for the super sensitive skin of a preemie.
Today Huggies released a new diaper for the smallest babies – Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers. These diapers are meant for babies weighing less than two pounds (or 900 grams) and are designed to help protect the sensitive skin of these littlest of little ones.
When I opened the box of Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers I was sent to help facilitate writing this post, I was floored. Floored. It is so easy to forget just how small and fragile preemies can be when yours is now a rambunctious 5 year old girl.
NICUs have had a need for a diaper solution specifically designed for preemies born under 2 pounds. Huggies noticed this unmet need and partnered with NICU nurses and neonatal therapists to develop the Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diaper.
The new diaper helps fulfill Huggies’ No Baby Unhugged promise to ensure all babies get the care they need to thrive and grow. Each Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diaper gores through a rigorous inspection process, including a 40-point hand inspection, and individual folding and hand-packaging.
One problem with having to wear an over-sized diaper on a preemie is that it makes it harder for the NICU nurses to position their little bodies – something that is done several times a day in the NICU. The Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diaper features specially-sized fasteners and a narrow, absorbent pad that provides a flexible fit so that the baby can be comfortably positioned with arms and legs tucked in for healthy growth and development. The soft, smooth liner and gentle leg gathers provide leakage protection without irritating fragile, underdeveloped skin.
They are also super absorbent to help keep their delicate skin dry and have overlapping fasteners to give an adjustable fit that is comfortable. Oh wow. Those are so tiny. It’s great that Huggies has come up with diapers for the smallest of preemies.
Both of my children were preemies and even though they weren’t that small I’m so glad that all babies will be able to have a comfortable diaper that fits. Huggies is such a great company.

It’s good to hear that Huggies has put some thought into premature babies. Premature birth is a reality for many parents and it’s good to take that into account.
Oh my word those are SO tiny! A friend’s twins were in NICU and probably would have fit into these – pulls at my heart strings.

Oh my these Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers are so tiny. It is great that they are making them this tiny. It mush have been a challenge for nurses to make the diapers they had work for such a small baby.
I can not believe how small these Huggies Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers are. I can imagine how sensitive their skin must be. It would be so thin at that size.

Thank you buggies for creating these! As a mom of a nano preemie, I know the important of a proper fitting diaper. I only wish that these would have been available when we were makeshifting diapers for my son. Thank you for making sure every baby no matter how small is always dry and comfortable and hugged
I love huggies ! my 4th grand child is in nicu now born at 26 weeks ! now 30 wks old I love clothe diapers BUT ! next great thing is huggies diapers ! love my kiddies !
One of my twins was born at 550g (1.3 lb) and was wearing Huggies Little Snugglers Micro diapers. At least that’s what the nurses called them but I didn’t see any markings on them that actually said Micro. I wonder if these were precursors to Nano diapers? These diapers were still too big for my baby though. My twins were born in Sept 2016.
