Tips for Making the BEST Cereal Treat Nests
- Make sure you use a large pot so that you can combine the cereal directly into the melted marshmallows.
- Heat the pot on a low and resist the urge to turn it up for the softest treats.
- Use fresh marshmallows and toss any old ones you have around, it will affect the texture.
- Also make sure your cereal is fresh. Stale cereal will only make stale tasting treats.
- Don’t press the treats too hard into the pan, they will become more dense than desirable.
- If the mixture is sticking to your hands, wet your hands with water first.
- Cool completely before removing from the pan.
- Wrap in cellophane and give as gifts or party favours!
- Totally customizable. Switch up the cereal, the filling, and even the candy!
Peanut Butter Chocolate Easter Nest Variations
- Use green confetti sprinkles to look like spring grass for the eggs to nestle in!
- Use Fruity Pebbles or Berry Pebbles and marshmallow creme instead of Cocoa Pebbles and peanut butter.
- Use Rice Krispies or Special K with cinnamon toast crunch spread, Biscoff spread, or Nutella instead of cocoa pebbles and peanut butter.
Equipment Needed to Make Cocoa Pebbles Easter Nests
- Muffin pans – You will need two regular muffin pans to make the nests. You can also freehand it for less uniform looking nests.
- Large pot
- Rubber or silicone spatula
How to Store Leftover Chocolate Easter Nests
These cocoa pebble nests are best eaten the same day but if you do have leftovers you can store them in an airtight container on the counter for up to 3 days.
For longer storage, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container or a freezer bag in the freezer for up to 3 months. When ready to eat, let them sit out at room temperature to thaw and warm up before enjoying!
Avoid refrigerating the nests unless you intend to let them come back to room temperature before serving.
About the Ingredients for Cocoa Pebbles Easter Nests
Butter – You can also use salted butter if you desire, and omit the additional salt.
Salt – The salt balances out the sweetness.
Marshmallows – You will need about about ¾ of a 10 oz bag. Mini marshmallows melt quicker than normal size marshmallows.
Cereal – Swap cocoa pebbles for another flavour of cereal like fruity pebbles or berry pebbles. You can also use another cereal like rice krispies.
Peanut butter – Not a fan of peanut butter? Try other spreads such as Nutella, Cinnamon toast crunch spread, or even Marshmallow creme.
Sprinkles – Any spring themed sprinkles work well but even rainbow confetti would look great.
Mini eggs – Any candy coated mini chocolate eggs will work. I used Cadbury but any brand will work.
