The Berenstain Bears Keep the FaithBrother and Sister Bear’s friend Ferdy Factual loves science. Brother and Sister like science too. They like digging for fossils, examining the moon through their telescope, and peering at tiny things under a microscope. But Ferdy tells Brother and Sister that he doesn’t believe God created the world. In fact, he doesn’t believe in God at all. This is a new idea for Brother and Sister. Together with Mama and Papa, they visit Preacher Brown to find out what it means to have faith and learn a lesson from Daniel who had faith in a den of lions.

The Berenstain Bears is a really familiar series of books many have grown up with.  Although Jan and Stan Berenstain have passed on, their son Mike Berentstain has kept the Bear family going.  The Berenstain bears books have always related relevant messages to children in a way they can understand.  The Living Lights series of Berenstain Bears books has the same aim but with a Christian twist.

The premise of this book is great, and does a wonderful job at explaining the concept of ‘Faith’.  I love that it tackles a topic that can be hard for even adults to understand and works it out in a way that is very accessible to young children.

The back cover of the book includes discussion prompts that parents can use with their children to help further the conversation. The Berenstain Bears: Keep the Faith is geared toward children ages 4-8.

About the Author:

Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents, Stan and Jan, working together to write and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.
