Tips for the Best Air Fryer Asparagus

For the best results, make use of these tips and you will have perfect crispy asparagus!

  • Don’t overcrowd the asparagus. Keep the asparagus in a single layer to allow for proper air circulation.
  • Choose fresh asparagus. When purchasing the asparagus, look for spears that are firm with tightly closed tips.
  • Wash and dry your asparagus. We want crispy air fryer asparagus, so make sure they are good and dry!
  • Look for a bundle that are uniform in size. This ensures the asparagus cooks more consistently than if they are uneven in size.
  • Trim the asparagus. Make sure you trim off all the woody stem.
  • Use just enough oil. You only need to use just a little bit of oil, just enough to get the cheese and seasonings to stick.

How do You Trim Asparagus Stalks?

Asparagus stalks should be trimmed at the point they snap easily. Hold the bottom half of the stalk of asparagus in one hand and bend it on either side of your hand. The asparagus should naturally snap at the point between the woody bottom and the fresh stalk.

You can also trim off the bottom inch or so of the asparagus stalks using a paring knife but be sure to trim away all of the tough part.

Equipment Needed to Roast Asparagus in the Air Fryer

All you really need for this side dish is an air fryer.

I have a COSORI Air Fryer Max XL which is 5.8 QT. It’s large enough to make a decent sized air fryer prime rib, and I think the white is really attractive. It is larger air fryer, so it easily handles larger amounts of ingredients. For this recipe you can get away with a smaller air fryer, but if you are looking to buy, I would definitely recommend this model.

About the Ingredients for Easy Air Fryer Asparagus

You can air fry asparagus with just oil and simple seasonings, but this recipe adds a delicious punch of flavour.

Asparagus – Look for thin but firm asparagus with tightly closed tips. .

Oil – Olive oil is best here but use any neutral flavoured oil with a high smoke point.

Cheese – I used pre-grated Parmesan cheese, but you can also use freshly grated cheese.

Garlic – Again, I used garlic powder, but you can use a clove of fresh, minced garlic instead. I do really prefer the powder here though.

Seasonings – Just salt and pepper.

Lemon zest – You can toss the asparagus in a little lemon juice if you like, but I find that the zest alone adds just the right amount of citrus zing.

Did these tonight for tea and they came out perfect I only cooked them for 3 minutes in the air fryer as they were only thin and I like mine to have a bit of crunch to them but the taste was really good ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹
