A trip to the Tropics #12PrintsProject

A trip to the Tropics #12PrintsProject

It’s been a long and cold winter, so after printing my winter bench photo last month for the #12PrintsProject I felt inspired to head out with my girls and my parents for a quick trip to the tropics.

Yes… the tropics!

The City of Hamilton, Ontario,  has a tropical greenhouse located in Gage Park that is open to the public year-long with no entry fee and plenty of free parking.  It’s a pretty perfect free attraction to take in, especially during the winter months.  It’s usually quiet and always warm with plenty of benches for seating and even a little turtle pond.  It’s probably one of the City’s best kept secrets and I’m letting you in on it.  Shhh!

Keira loved spending an afternoon with “Gampa” and “Gamma” in the greenhouse.   Everything was new and exciting for her.  She was talking for days later about the fish, the birds and the turtles!

There are also plenty of different tropical species growing in the Greenhouse such as beautiful Bird of Paradise and even Pineapple plants!  What I really felt inspired by though was the gorgeous Orchids.  I knew I had to get a shot for a print to go in my washroom.

I ordered a metal print as i wanted to try something different and metal prints are pretty different from the typical matted prints found in my home.  Plus I knew it would catch the light just perfectly in my upstairs washroom.

Metal prints come ready to hang with three different hanging systems available.  I went with the float mount system which gives the print a clean, unframed loook.  Also available is a standoff kit pr a float frame.

I love the ultra modern look the metal print gives this more traditional type of art.  It really breathes some fresh air into pretty standard subject matter, don’t you think?

Posterjack takes your photo and prints it directly on aluminum to create a unique piece of art with a brilliant sheen no other medium can deliver.  I love how the metal gives the artwork a different look depending on the angle you are standing at.

Since it is printed on aluminum the print is pretty lightweight but durable and rigid.

I did not know that Hamilton has a Tropical Garden. I have several family members living in Ontario and none of them has ever mentioned this. I think this would be a fantastic place to go.I would probably be just as happy and excited as your Keira if I had a chance to visit that garden for an afternoon. I love your Orchid print. I think a print of an orchid would look wonderful in my bathroom, too. I would like to visit the Trevi fountain in Rome and maybe the Sistine Chapel. Dreams are important to all of us.

What a beautiful print! I love printing out flowers and framing them as well. I find that flower prints brightens up the room during the winter months when it's all gloomy outside.
