A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens & Roberto Innocenti #FMEGifts2015

51GlvORJtOL

From the bustling, snowy streets of 19th-century London to the ghostly apparitions of Christmases past and future, award-winning artist Roberto Innocenti vividly renders not only the authentic detail but also the emotional impact of Charles Dickens’s beloved Christmas tale. In both crowded urban scenes and intimate portraits of familiar characters, we gain a sense of the timeless humanity of the tale and perhaps catch a glimpse of ourselves.

This edition contains the original and unabridged text of Dickens’s A Christmas Carol along with gorgeous full page (and some 2 page spreads) colour illustrations throughout by  illustrator Roberto Innocenti.  It is recommended for 12 and up, although I think there is nothing wrong with reading aloud Dickens to younger children.

Growing up we had many family traditions and one of them was coming home from Christmas Eve Church service to sit down and watch the 1951 version of Scrooge.  You know the version – starring Alastair Sim.  Honestly I don’t think the part has ever been played better, in my mind, Scrooge IS Alastair Sim!

I have to admit that I was amused by how much Scrooge in Innocenti’s illustrations seems to resemble Alastair Sim too.  In any case, reading the story to the girls brought back many Christmas memories, and while I am not sure they understood much of it, they definitely did enjoy cuddling up together on the couch and reading through this classic.

If you are looking for the complete classic, this is a beautiful, hardcover edition to choose.  Perfect for pulling out yearly and creating new family traditions with a Christmas classic!

A Christmas Carol is available to purchase from Amazon, and book-stores near you!

You gave me the idea to start a collection of the books I loved as a child. There were a lot of books that I can collect. A Christmas Carol would be one of those books that I intend to collect.
