As you know, I’ve recently been experimenting with seasonal scented playdough like this peppermint playdough, the gingerbread playdough I shared last week and the Sugar cookie homemade playdough I shared awhile ago.  The recipe can make 2 cups of playdough for pennies and in under 5 minutes! It also lasts for up to 3 months if kept in an air tight container.

I love the scent of this peppermint playdough, it’s so invigorating!  I did find that it was strong smelling at first but now that they girls have been playing with it constantly it’s down to an enjoyable level of peppermint scent.  It’s the perfect Christmas playdough!

Peppermint Playdough

Materials:

1 Cup All-purpose flour
1/2 Cup Salt
2 tsp Cream of Tartar
1 Cup Peppermint Tea, prepared (or water)
1 1/2 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
1 tbsp Peppermint Extract
5-10 drops red food colouring

Directions:

In a medium sauce pan, mix the flour, salt and cream of tartar together then whisk in the tea, oil, and extract until smooth.

Place over low heat and stir until it thickens and becomes hard to stir. When it is ready it tends to form a ball (4 mins).

Remove to a heat safe surface and knead a few times before setting aside to cool. Store in an air-tight container.
