Picture Keeper

If you are anything like me, you have hundreds if not thousands of pictures of your family just sitting around on your computer.  I mean, I have Keira’s and Ava’s entire lives stored on my laptop.  I am terrified at the thought of losing all those pictures and memories!  When Picture Keeper approached me to try out their backup solution, the PK8, I of course was interested. I’m so happy to have been introduced to this quick and easy way to back up all my photos!

Picture Keeper is so easy to use that even the least “tech savvy” out there will have it working for them in no time! There is embedded software on the Picture Keeper drives that literally does all of the work for you. There is nothing to install or setup.  Nowhere to login to.  You just plug it in, click start and Picture Keeper does the work for you as it automatically finds and saves your pictures.

You don’t need to tell the program where to search as its setup to backup the default photo save locations.  However, after running the initial backup I went to view the files that had been saved and found it had saved files I didn’t want to backup.   If you are like and save your photos elsewhere then you are able to modify the search options to backup photos in other drives and/or folders.   When I un-plugged and plugged the picture saver back in I was happy to find that it also remembered my modifications to the default settings.

I love that the Picture Keeper is able to skip duplicate photos as I sometimes have the same photo saved in multiple locations so this option does save space.  It is also able to backup video files if you toggle that option!

Once I did change the settings I started the backup again but it stopped part way through as it got full.  I decided to go through and resize all my photos as they were all 6MB which is a lot bigger than what what I need.  After re-sizing I was able to successfully back up all my photos pretty quickly with plenty of room left over.

I love how easy the Picture Keeper is to use.  It is not your typical USB stick either if that is what you are thinking.  The built-in software is what makes this product a real winner.  You don’t have to move files manually, it does it all for you.  The software also makes use of drive spanning technology which enables you to start using another PK drive once you fill up your initial drive without having to start over again.  This means you do not have to deal with duplicates – it keeps track of what has already been backed up and continues on backing up new files.

The Picture Keeper also makes it easy to make prints of your photos as you can simply carry the drive to your local printing store and print the photos directly off of it.

The Picture Keeper is available in a variety of sizes and is compatible with both Mac and Windows computers. The smallest device is the PK4 which has a capacity to hold up to 4,000 photos (4 GB total) and the largest is the PK Pro with the capacity to hold up to 250, 000 photos based on a 1MB file size.  There is also the option of the Picture Keeper software which gives you the ability to supply your own drives (either USB or external hard drive) and the PK app for your mobile device.

  1. Great idea for a product…. I would be devastated if I lost our son’s pics. I have thousands of them, all in one spot!

  2. I have over 25K photos on my computer… my nieces and nephews at 1 day old, all the weddings I’ve attended… Irreplaceable memories.

  3. all my daughters baby pictures, pictures of when my husband and I first met, my dogs puppy pictures – all of them!!!

  4. I’d be upset losing any of them, but especially the oldies. My parents have both passed away, so without backup copies, they’re gone forever.

  5. Um, how about the first 4 days of my oldest child’s life and my maternity photos! My husband and I bought a new camera (our first digital!) about a month before our oldest kid was born and he was flipping through pictures and accidentally reformated the SD card!
Now the ones I would hate to lose the most would be any from the last 6 months since I don’t have any of the printed off.

  6. What pictures would you be most upset over losing? I have a few pictures of my deceased parents and two deceased brothers that hurt so much if I lost.

  7. Family photos, kids’ activities, our Disney trips. Lots of great memories! I’d be most upset to lose any of those.

  8. I would be most upset with losing photos of my dad, who recently passed away. Those photos of him and with him are beyond precious to me right now.

  9. OK – I totally need one of these! When my daughter was first born I was really good at downloading pictures and backing them up then everything fell apart when I went back to work – I got totally disorganized so therefore, everything is still randomly sitting on various computers/laptops at home! No organization or backup at all. These sound awesome

  10. I Would be Lost and Heart – Broken if I lost pictures of my children, I am a mommy to 10 Beautiful children and I am a Very Happy Camera person so if you can image =) Picture’s say a 1000 words =) Thanks for an incredible meaningful Giveaway =) <3

  11. I would me most upset about losing pics of my children growing up. I lost a usb stick full of pics from my son’s first year/christmas while we were in the hospital. I was so upset. We found it 2 years later in the christmas decorations. I cried tears of joy for almost an hour.

  12. Of course I would be upset if I lost pictures of my daughter, but I also have several years of whale research photos that are invaluable.

  13. I don’t think I’d be upset as the fun memories are the most important. Any event that others were taking pictures at would be the easiest to find similar pictures. Pictures of family members laughing I cherish the most.

  14. I would be devastated if I lost my kids baby pictures. A few weeks ago my girls baby books were destroyed from a water leak in the basement.

  15. I’d hate to lose any of my pictures but especially the ones of our baby and of our dog that we had to put down a few years ago.

  16. Ive lost pictures before and it really is heart breaking. Id be upset if I lost my daughters graduation pictures which I need to save asap.

  17. Did a restore of picture keeper pro backup into a brand new desktop computer, assisted by a company rep. After much difficulty even locating any restored pictures, I did find them in a remote location. Here is a summary list of my experiences:

    1. Many duplicates

    2. Thousands of pictures missing of the 7,000 I had backed up.

    3. Representative promised to arrange for remote tech support to fix the problem.

    4. Five phone calls and messages left by me, no return call, no tech support.

    5. Pictures which were found: no organization, no folders as advertised. A non-stop stream of photos which I can do nothing with.

    6. I had Amazon Prime upload my Cloud pictures onto the computer, so I at least have those 460 photos, and they are in folders and organized beautifully.

I hope you have much better luck if you purchase this product. Customer support is non-existent and it does not perform as promised on their product videos. My experience was quite stressful.
