How to Store Oreo Balls
There are many different ways to store Oreo balls, depending on how long you want them to last and what kind of consistency you prefer. Here are a few suggestions for storing these delicious treats:
Refrigerator Storage
Oreo balls can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week. To ensure freshness, place them in an airtight container or ziplock bag. This will prevent any air from getting to them and causing them to become hard or dry. Do not store your Oreo balls at room temperature, since the filling is made with cream cheese.
Freezer Storage
For longer storage, Oreo balls can be frozen for up to three months. To freeze them, place them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper and put them in the freezer until they are firm. Once they are firm, you can transfer them to an airtight container or resealable bag. When ready to eat, simply thaw them in the refrigerator overnight.
If you need to stack the Oreo balls in your storage container, make sure to place a layer of wax paper between each layer. This will prevent them from sticking together and ruining their shape.

About the Ingredients for Grinch Oreo Balls
Oreos – Any flavoured Oreos will work in this recipe. Peppermint Oreos, Mint Oreos, Gingerbread Oreos, Peanut Butter Oreos, Java Chip Oreos, Golden Oreos, regular Oreos, etc… Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos can make the filling become too wet so you may want to use less cream cheese if using those varieties.
Cream cheese – Use regular cream cheese for the best texture and flavour. You can use light if you prefer though.
Candy melts – A double boiler or candy melts melting pot can help keep the coating at a desirable consistency and temperature. Microwaving can cause the candy melts to seize and thicken so be sure not to heat it on too high of a heat. A low or defrost setting works best. Stir it in 30 second intervals to ensure it heats evenly. If the melts do seize up just stir in a little vegetable shortening until the melts smooth out.
Red heart sprinkles – If you cannot find red heart sprinkles in store, you can order it online through Amazon or you can try checking stores such as Joann, Hobby Lobby, etc.

How to Make Grinch Oreo Balls
Yields: 24 balls | Prep time: 1 hour | Chill time: 2 hours
Ingredients:
- Two 12.2 ounce packages Red Velvet Oreos (44 cookies)
- 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
- 15 ounces light green candy melts, divided
- Red heart sprinkles
Directions:
Prepare a sheet pan by lining it with parchment paper and set it aside.
Process the Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or blender. (Images 1 and 2)
In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer on high speed, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. (Image 3)
Add the Oreo crumbs (Image 4) and mix together until well combined. (Image 5)
Using a 2 tablespoon cookie scoop, create evenly sized balls and roll them together in the palms of your hands until they are smooth. (Image 6) Place the balls onto the prepared baking tray and refrigerate them for 2 hours. Chilling the balls will assist in maintaining their shape when dipping them into the melts.
Reserve approximately ½-¾ cup of the light green candy melt pieces for drizzling later. For the rest, gently melt the remaining light green wafers using a double boiler or a candy melting pot over low heat until smooth. Stir regularly to ensure even heating. (Image 7)
Take one ball at a time and immerse it in the melts. (Image 8) Use a fork to lift it out, tapping the fork on the edge of the double boiler or pot to remove any excess coating. (Image 9) Place the coated ball onto the prepared baking tray and continue the process with the remaining balls. (Image 10)
Fill a microwave-safe piping bag with ½ cup of the reserved candy melts. Twist the bag shut and microwave it on a low or defrost setting until completely melted and smooth. Remember to massage the bag every 2 minutes to ensure even melting. (Image 11)
Trim a tiny section from the tip of the piping bag and gently drizzle the contents over four coated balls at a time. Before the drizzle hardens, quickly garnish with a red heart sprinkle. (Image 12)
Ensure that the coating is completely set before serving. For faster hardening, you may refrigerate them.
