Finding Dory Inspired Sensory Bin

This Finding Dory Inspired Sensory Bin is the perfect kids activity for engaging little Finding Nemo fans this summer. Let your kids explore the ocean habitat with a little imaginative play.

 

I’ve been meaning to put together a sensory bin for my girls for awhile. When I was recently in The Dollar Tree I came across some Disney figurines featuring characters from Finding Dory. Knowing how much my girls love Nemo and have been looking forward to Finding Dory I decided it was the perfect opportunity to build them a fun surprise.

 

 

This Finding Dory sensory bin is a fun Finding Dory activity to celebrate the recent release. I have a feeling it’s going to be a super popular theme this year!

 

 

All my supplies were sourced from The Dollar Tree aside from the rice, although that is available there too.

 

 

Finding Dory Inspired Sensory Bin

Supplies Needed:

 

 

Large Shallow Bin
4 Cups Rice

Glass Marbles

Glass Gems

Sea Shells

Finding Dory Disney Figurines (Same figurines also available on Amazon, this is my affiliate link.)

 

Directions:

 

 

Fill the bin with the rice.

 

 

Arrange the marbles and gems on top, I arranged them so there was bare “sand” in one corner and placed the sea shells mostly in that area.

 

 

Place the Finding Dory figurines inside the bin.

 

 

 

My girls were so excited to start playing with the bin. At first they were just picking items up to look at them but then soon the were picking up handfuls of the rice and gems and letting it all fall back inside the bin.

 

 

Eventually they played a game of “Finding Dory” and “Finding Nemo” by hiding them under the rice and having the shark go looking for them.

 

They played for ages with this sensory bin and only stopped when I announced it was nap time with a promise that they could play with it again tomorrow.

 

 

It’s such a fun way to engage them with imaginative, hands-on play and get them even more excited to see Finding Dory.

 

 

To cool down you could easily swap the rice for water and let your kids play with this sensory bin outdoors.

 

 

The best part is that the entire thing was under $20 to buy the parts for and it has provided so much fun!

 

 

You could even use play sand in place of the rice, but I find rice is a bit easier to clean up and kids love the feeling of the rice running through their little hands just as much as sand.
