#PlayTestShare: Family Game Night with Raincoast Books

#PlayTestShare: Family Game Night with Raincoast Books

My oldest is in school now which has left my 2 year old a little bit heart broken as she waits for her best friend to come home and play at the end of each day. This has made family game night a little extra special for our family as we aren’t together as much as we are used to with Keira in school now.

Raincoast books sent us a couple fun and unique titles from their #PlayTestShare selection of titles for use on family game night, check them out!

Alain Gree Animals Matching Game
It’s an animal menagerie! Kids will delight in this classic matching game, featuring the timeless art of beloved French picture book illustrator Alain Gree. It’s the perfect opportunity to identify favorite animals, and to discover new ones. Large, sturdy cards are ideal for small hands, and the game play of discovering 18 different animals builds memory, concentration, and matching skills.

This is a classic matching game for kids 3 and up. The cards feature illustrations of animals by French illustrator Alain Gree on large, sturdy cards perfect for younger children to grasp easily.

There are 32 cards in this game and since the cards are rather large we made the playing area smaller by reducing the number of matching pairs used but it is easy enough to create a more difficult game by including more of the cards.

Instructions for game play are printed on the inside of the box where they will stay safe and sound for future play.

Punch Out & Play Game Book
One book, so many ways to play! Acclaimed artist and designer Laura Ljungkvist invites children to punch out 10 different puzzles and 13 classic games, such as Memory, Go Fish, and Dominoes. Packed with fun, graphic artwork, a variety of games, and plenty of colorful envelopes for easy storage, this book provides hours of play for kids of all ages-all in an attractively priced package.

This book looked like a ton of fun and perfect for kids of all ages, which is why I chose it. I was, however, a little bit worried about how to store all the pieces once punched out. I know my kids, they will lose pieces like these easily unless I can contain the pieces. Lo and behold, each game is prefaced by an envelope that can be punched out and assembled – with game instructions printed right on it. How smart is that?

It features punch out games suitable for young kids due to the design featuring patterns instead of numbers including Go Fish,  Dominoes, puzzles, tic tac toe and even a full deck of cards.  The pieces and envelopes are all printed on cardstock so they are sturdy enough to play with but could easily become damaged if misused. So you know, adult supervision is probably a good idea if you have little ones playing with the games.

The pieces and envelopes punch out easily which is nice so there isn’t a whole lot of setup time needed. It’s a nice compact format for adding classic games to your family game night repertoire.
