Omano JuniorScope: The Ultimate Kids Microscope

I am finding that as my girls get older it is getting harder and harder to find them gifts that really stand out as unique and engaging that they will also actually appreciate. The Omano JuniorScope fits that bill perfectly as a great tool for kids to help satisfy their abundant curiosity about the world around them.

A microscope is the perfect tool to spark an appreciation for science in children, and the JuniorScope is both high quality and easy to use making it an excellent choice for your child.

 

 

The JuniorScope was basically ready to use right out of the box. Just plug it in or pop in the batteries, attach the eyepiece and go. I would recommend reading through the provided instructions though prior to use but is is pretty straight forward.

The JuniorScope is actually two microscopes in one with dual lights. It functions as a low power microscope for looking at solid objects like insects but also as a high power microscope for looking at transparent items like blood cells and bacteria.

 

 

It’s a pretty powerful microscope with 3 different lenses offering 40x, 100x, and 400x magnification and because it has precision glass optics, your child will see a crystal clear image of the slide.

 

 

It comes with a load of accessories to get your child started including prepared glass slides, forceps, a petri dish, black slides, lens cleaning paper, and more. 

Also included with the Ormano JuniorScope are The Amazing Microscope Adventures experiment cards (a $18.99 value for free). The Amazing Microscope Adventures take your kid step-by-step through the basics of using a microscope and includes several fun experiments. Since the cards are plastic coated they won’t rip, tear or otherwise get ruined.

While the JuniorScope is lightweight, it is also very solid and well built. This is not a toy. In fact, it seemed at least as powerful as I remember my high-school biology class microscopes being.

 

 

The included prepared slides are also great quality as well and are quite possibly the best part of the kit as they allow your children to start exploring right out of the box. My kids were completely fascinated with the various slides included from the Bees wing and fly leg (pictured) to the Daphnia and onion skin.

 

 

The one and only aspect of the JuniorScope that I would change is that there is no stopper to prevent you from smashing the lenses onto the slides and breaking them.

Unfortunately my 6 year old got a hold of the JuniorScope on her own before I had the chance to walk her through how to properly use it, and she accidentally smashed one of the slides trying to get it into focus.

 

 

That said, with a little education of proper use and care, this hasn’t been a problem since. She has been very careful when adjusting the focus, and is able to do so independently. Lesson learnt! You can also purchase more prepared slides, which is something I will be doing for sure to help my girls explore further along with helping them prepare their own slides.
