How to Get and Maintain the Perfect Lawn

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of TruGreen. The opinions and text are all mine.

Tis the season to start focusing on your lawn care. Many people strive for the perfect lush, deep green lawn but the truth of the matter is, it takes a lot more than just regular mowing to achieve it.

Caring for your lawn means making a dedicated effort to fertilizing, maintaining and troubleshooting any issues that may arise.

What is the Perfect Lawn?

Determining what the “perfect lawn” looks like to you is the first step in your quest to achieving your vision. The fact is, that no one can tell you what your lawncare goals are, only you know what it is that you want. Whether that means a lush and healthy lawn, or a lawn that is beautifully manicured, you choose what’s important to you.

Mowing

Many people will attempt to save time by mowing their lawn extremely short, as if doing so will decrease the frequency they have to mow. The truth of the matter is, doing this can severely damage your grass and actually increase weeds. Never mow the grass to less than a third of it’s height. One of the main keys to a perfect lawn is to ensure that you are paying attention to how often you mow, and how short you’re mowing it.

How sharp the blades on your mower are, is also an important factor. It is crucial to your lawn’s appearance that you sharpen your blade at least once every season you mow. Keep in mind, dull blades will tear up your lawn instead of cutting it neatly.

Watering

Morning is the ideal time to water your lawn. If you water during the day, the sun will only dry up the grass and produce a burnt look to your lawn. Watering in the evening is also not a good idea as this can create issues with your lawn as well. Water your lawn in the morning, and make sure that the water has a chance to penetrate the ground. Watering your lawn is much more than just getting the grass wet.

Feed Your Lawn

If you want a healthy lawn you need to pay attention to the nutrient makeup of the soil. Testing your soil to ensure it contains the correct amount of nutrients is a key component to the health of your lawn. If you soil doesn’t contain the correct balance, make sure to get a fertilizer that can remedy that. Just remember to read and follow the directions that come with your fertilizer as too much can actually be counter productive to your lawn.

I really like how you talk about the essentials of taking care of and maintaining your lawn like mowing and watering. These are things that I am really bad at staying on task with. It would be great if I could find a lawn maintenance service that could help me out so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
