We’ve been holding off putting Ava into a full sized bed from her Toddler bed. She is about to start junior kindergarten this year, and although she is only 3 years old, she is nearly the same size as her older sister and was getting dreadfully cramped in the toddler sized bed.
Fortuitously I was contacted by Novosbed to review their new mattress brand: Douglas.
I have to admit that I still had to put some thought over whether to get a mattress for Ava or if we should replace our own mattress. Long story short, Ava got her new mattress, and I’m very jealous.
Douglas by Novosbed
Douglas is a completely Canadian made mattress. It was designed in Canada and is made in Canada. It is also Eco-friendly as it is crafted using sustainable natural eucalyptus fabric, and since it is made and shipped exclusively in Canada, Douglas has a much smaller carbon footprint than other mattresses.
It’s a medium-firm mattress which provides balanced support and pressure-point relief that makes it ideal for all sleeping positions.
It is actually composed of several different layers including the Douglas CoolSense™ Cover which is a washable cover made with Natural Eucalyptus Fabric™ which is designed to draw moisture away for a cooler, drier night. The other layers include a 6” Motion Isolation Support Foam to help eliminate motion transfer between sleepers, a 2” Premium Elastex™ Foam layer designed to be durable, supportive and responsive, and the top layer of 2” Luxury ecoLight™ Cooling Gel Foam. Neat, right?

When the mattress arrived I was surprised to see just how small the box was.
I honestly thought the box would be much bigger but the mattress appears to have been shrink wrapped before being rolled and packaged into the box.

After removing the plastic wrap around the mattress we watched it start to expand right away. At first I was worried that I had been sent a twin instead of a double mattress, but it did expand to full size within about 5 minutes.
The look on my girls face as the mattress went from coiled up in the box to a full sized mattress was priceless.
Ava was nervous going from her toddler bed into the new full sized bed so I agreed to sleep with her for a few nights until she got used to it. This also gave me the opportunity to test the mattress out for myself.
I am a side sleeper which means I always have a hard time sleeping at hotels, and finding just the right mattress. The wrong mattress results in poor sleep and back aches within hours of laying down to sleep. I was impressed with the quality of sleep I experienced with the Douglas mattress, and absolutely no sore back.
I love that it is both firm but cushy. Supportive but plush. Seriously the most amazing mattress I have slept on.
The best part is that Ava is a stomach sleeper and she is every bit as comfortable sleeping on the Douglas mattress as I was. Indeed, it is ideal for all sleeping positions because of its design.
If there is one con to the Douglas mattress it is that it is a little too comfortable. I just don’t want to get out of bed when I am sleeping on it!
I also love that the top cover is removable and completely washable. Ava actually made a giant mess in her room with hair oil the other day and got some all over her bed. It was quick and easy to unzip the cover and it washed up nicely in the machine – good as new!
When you purchase a Douglas mattress, you can relax knowing that it comes with a 120-night trial so you can try it out for yourself at no risk to yourself. Every Douglas mattress is also protected by a 15 year warranty, and a complete satisfaction guarantee. Factor in the affordable price point for the Douglas, you literally have nothing to lose.
I am betting that you will love the Douglas mattress every bit as much as we do once you’ve tried it out for yourself.
