**This is last years gift guide review – republished**

Last year I had the pleasure of being introduced to Teach My learning kits and did a review with Keira of the Baby kit. These kits are award winning all-in-one learning kits containing a variety of different activities that allow you to Bond. Teach. Play… 20 minutes a day.

Please check out last years Teach My Baby review for more background on the Teach My Kits and a full review of the Teach My Baby learning kit.  This year I will focus on the Teach my Toddler Kit since that is the most appropriate for Keira who is now almost 3 years old.  I have included pictures and descriptions of the Teach My Preschooler kit but she isn’t quite ready for a more hands on review.

Teach My Toddler

The three learning kits each come in their own sturdy portable cases.   The kits are broken down into self contained resealable sections organized by subject.  This definitely helps to keep the kits organized.  Now that we have had the Teach My Baby kit for a pretty long time I am quite impressed with the entire system.  The portable case is still in great shape despite Keira constantly dragging it around with her.

The kits also contain a teaching guide with tips and ideas on how to best use the kit with your child.

The Teach My Toddler learning kit has everything you need to give your toddler a head start and teach the basics. Teach My Toddler is divided into four sections; The Alphabet, Numbers to 10, Shapes and Colours.   It is appropriate for kids aged 18-36 Months.

Each section in the kits come with a variety of different tools to work with your child that encourage repetition interaction.   Each section is also sold separately.

The Alphabet section teaches toddlers the 26 letters of the alphabet – both uppercase and lowercase letters.  This sections includes a board book, poster, 4 foam puzzles and 26 flashcards.

Keira loved the puzzles included in each section of the Teach My Toddler kit.  I like to encourage conversation about the letters as she has fun getting them to fit.  Keira is already pretty good with recognizing some letters but not so much with others so this has already been a big help, especially with the awesome poster, board book and flash cards included.

Teach My Toddler Numbers 1 to 10 introduces toddlers to counting and number recognition with a board book, poster, puzzle and ten flashcards.  Keira has already mastered counting to 13 and will often notice pairs of things and joyfully shout out “Mommy, two lights!” or “Mommy, two red cars!” However, I never realized that she didn’t know what written numbers looked like, so that is what we are working on with this kit which makes it fun and easy for us to work on.

Teach My Learning Kits for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers #FMEGifts14

The Shapes section is hands down Keira’s most favourite section, although that is likely because she finds it the easiest.  I love that this section goes beyond basic shapes and includes ovals, octagons and more.  Keira loves to point out circles, squares, triangles, stars and hearts but she didn’t know the others as well.  Teaching her more shapes was easy with the board book, the puzzle, the poster and the flashcards all of which help develop her spatial thinking as well as math skills.Teach My Learning Kits for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers #FMEGifts14Again, her favourite part of the kit is the puzzle.  It is a great way to talk about shapes and their names and how to recognize them, especially when you have the poster pulled out at the same time to provide a little repetition.

Teach My Learning Kits for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers #FMEGifts14

The Colours section teaches toddlers 9 common colours with the use of a board book, poster, puzzle and nine flashcards.  It is available with both Canadian and American spelling which is pretty nice as we Canadians usually have to settle on American spelling when it comes to many teaching tools.  (Which is a little confusing for children!)

Teach My Learning Kits for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers #FMEGifts14

The flashcards included in each kit are pretty smart and include visual as well as written sides.  The visual is obviously for the child with the written word for the parent.   They are a nice way to reinforce the concept and test that your child is “getting it”.

Teach My Learning Kits for Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers #FMEGifts14

Again the colours section includes a foam puzzle.  I really like how this one is setup with the coloured crayons to match up with the colour splotches.  A lot of the time I find that colour learning books and tools are put together in a confusing fashion showing purple grapes, red strawberries etc..  I often think that setting it up in that way – different colours and different objects – has to be at least a little bit confusing for a learning child.  It just makes more sense to have it setup this way so I was quite impressed with the thought put into this section.

teach my preschooler

I would choose Teaching My Preschooler. I have a daughter in Jk, a 2 year old and a new baby coming in December. If I had teaching my preschooler, it could be used for all three of them eventually.

It isn’t often that you can find educational bath toys, I feel these would be better than the standard bath foam letters and numbers, encouraging learning activities while playing and getting clean in the tub 🙂 good way to make learning fun
