I was shopping with my family at Marshalls a couple weeks ago to find an outfit for an event. While browsing the home decor section I came across this silver pineapple. I really love pineapples in home decor but I actually have zero pineapples decorating my home. Just looking at it I was struck with a fun idea to get it to work with my home decor and colour scheme.
Creating this paint splatter pineapple home decor piece was a pretty simple process, making this a project anyone can tackle.
Start by picking out a home decor item you want to decorate. Please note you cannot do this to dishes you intend to eat off of.
Next choose 4-5 paint colors to work with – it’s easy to find colours to match your rooms colour scheme with BEHR premium plus ultra or BEHR Marquee paint. I chose to use Seared Gray, Essential Teal, Cameo White and Kiss & Tell. The first three colours are part of the colour scheme but Kiss & Tell was just such a pretty looking colour I had to go with it.
Set yourself up outside for this project with a large drop-cloth and at least two different paintbrushes. I found the paint splatter effect isn’t nearly as good when the paint is watered down. The effect was great using both the Premium Plus Ultra and the Marquee.
Start by splattering the darkest paint first. I started by doing two colours at a time then drying in between before moving on to the other two. I did the grey and teal first. The technique is pretty simple, just load your paintbrush with a small amount of paint near the end of the brush and flick it towards your object with your wrist.
Experiment with different angles and force to change up the look of your project. You are not going for a uniform look.
I allowed it to dry (about 15 minutes) before continuing on with my other two chosen colours. Again I did the darker colour first which was the pink and then finished off with the white.
Again the paint doesn’t take too long to dry but once it is dry to the touch it is safe to put your project on display!
