Give to Others #LifeAdvice

My mom is not shy when it comes to giving out life advice.  I couldn’t even begin to list them all for you.  A lot of it stuck despite some of my teenage angst and in the end I think my mom did a good job in raising me. 

The single piece of life advice though that has always stuck with me, and I’ve talked about it before,  is to give to others and it will come back to you tenfold.  I know this is something her own mother would often tell her and this single piece of advice clearly shaped my own mothers life.  It’s about giving to those in need, it’s about treating others the way you would want to be treated and it’s about being mindful of Karma.  You reap what you sow. 

What I love about this advice is that it is a reminder to give what you can and do your best to be good to others.  I love that when my mom says it that it does not mean that if you give a beggar $5 you will somehow come into $50.  No, it’s about the good you freely and willingly put into the world coming back to you in some perhaps unexpected form.

 My mom spends a lot of her time helping other people and volunteering at the very same Church 3 generations of our family have been baptized into now.  As a matter of fact my mom keeps so busy helping others it can be hard to track her down!

We all have people in our lives who have inspired us with great life advice, whether that be a parent, a grandparent, a friend, a neighbour or a teacher.  We are all who we are today because of these people so why not pay it forward with kindness during this Christmas season.
