Learning made fun with Raincoast Board Books #Giveaway

Learning made fun with Raincoast Board Books

Keira’s day involves a lot of books.  One of her favourite things to do is sit down and flip through one of her books.  Part of her nighttime routine is sitting together in the nursery rocking chair and reading a book of her choice together.  She has always loved books and that is a trait I am more than happy to foster.

While Keira is happy to read pretty much any brightly illustrated book, some books are obviously more engaging than others.  Since she is only 2 and can’t read, flaps and other features that keep her a little more occupied really keep her busy.

Learning made fun with Raincoast Board Books

Raincoast books carry a large variety of board books from great publishers like Chronicle Kids and Petit Collage.  We were sent a bundle of books from Raincoast Books by these two publishers including Peek-a-Zoo, Daddy Wrong Legs, A Tree for All Seasons, You are my Baby Garden, You are my Baby Ocean, and You are my Baby Farm.

9781452111759Peek-A-Zoo! by Nina Laden is a die-cut board book with bright illustrations and simple rhyming text.  The idea is to keep the reader guessing as to what is peeking through the window.   It is a clever take on the game of peek-a-boo revealing a variety of cheerful animals.  The colourful illustrations saturate each page and are sure to keep the attention of most children.  The best part of this book though is the surprise reveal at the end that is sure to elicit giggles from both you and your child.

9781452115283Daddy Wrong Legs by Nina Laden is a split-page board book that allows the reader to mix and match the torso and legs of various daddies.  We have a lot of fun with this title and laugh over the mis-matched legs as we go along.  The top section features daddy torso’s with their children and the word “daddy” with the bottom section featuring legs and a caption rhyming the preceding page:  “Dog Legs / Frog Legs.”

9782848019451A Tree for All Seasons by Maryse Guittet is a board book in the shape of a tree that allows the reader to see what seasonal changes occur to the tree.  It also has lift the flap features which reveal the creatures living within the tree.  There is a page for each season with winter being the back cover.

9781452126494The You Are My Baby series by Lorena Siminiovich includes Garden, Farm, Ocean and Safari (which I was not sent.)  These adorable board books feature a little book within a bigger book allowing the reader to match the baby animals with their parents.  The illustrations are vibrant and sweet with patterns throughout them, matching on both books when the mom and baby are unified.

“You Crawl on the Sandy Ocean Floor,” the big book says.  “You are my baby, little Octopus”, the little book says.  The baby octopus makes a “Fizz!” sound. Each pair throughout the books are patterned similarly with the text mentioning an animal trait, it’s name and the sound it makes.  Even the spider is cute in these books thanks to the smile on each creatures face. These books are a fun way to introduce animals to baby and since Keira already knows most of her animals she loves to show off by helping to “read”.

I think she would like the Peek-a-Zoo best. She just loves her animals. Every time we see a lion in her books she starts to roar.
