Quick & Easy Peri Peri Chicken Breasts

 Nandos Piri piri chicken sauce

Nando’s Restaurants first opened in South Africa in 1987 and soon became famous for its Portuguese style flame-grilled chicken flavoured with their PERi-PERi (African Birds Eye Chilli) sauce.  The distinctive flavour of Nando’s sauces comes from the traditional Portuguese recipe based on lemons, fresh herbs, garlic and PERi-PERi.

Thanks to Nando’s bottled sauces you can enjoy delicious PERi-PERi without having to leave your home!  There is a range of sauces, marinades, salad dressings, rubs and snacks available.   Nando’s PERi-PERi sauces have no artificial additives, or added colours, preservatives or MSG.  You can find Nando’s in your local supermarket, if you can’t find it there, you can get a bottle from your local Nando’s restaurant.

We were sent a package of Nando’s sauces to try out, and they were an instant hit!  I especially loved the medium PERi-PERi sauce for use in cooking.  It has a wonderful depth of flavour with a nice touch of heat.  I found the hint of tang in the sauce to be absolutely addictive.

There are so many ways these sauces can be used, but my favourite way so far is to marinade the chicken in the sauce with a little extra lemon juice and then grill it.  The chicken comes out moist and flavourful, even when it comes to chicken breasts!  Chicken breasts can be so hard to cook, often they come out bland and boring but that is not the case when cooked with Nando’s!  Check out the recipe below and see for yourself.

Quick & Easy Peri Peri Chicken Breast

This is a super easy and quick way to make delicious and moist peri peri chicken breasts using Nando’s Peri Peri sauce.  I love the addition of lemon to the chicken although it certainly isn’t necessary.

I love to cut the breast into strips and top a fresh salad with them.  They also make for yummy chicken burgers or even chicken tacos by slicing and rolling into a tortilla with a little coleslaw.  Of course, they also go over great simply served with roasted potatoes and veggies for a great family dinner.

Ingredients:

4-6 Chicken Breasts
1/2 Lemon
Nando’s Peri Peri Sauce1 tbsp
Olive Oil (If Pan Frying)

Directions:

If pan frying then butterfly the chicken breasts by cutting it roughly in half most of the way through.

Place your chicken into a marinading dish and squeeze the juice of half a lemon over them.

Pour a generous amount of Nando’s Peri Peri sauce over the chicken.

Allow to marinade for 30 minutes.

If pan frying heat up olive oil and then place chicken in the pan.  If using a grill just place on the grill at medium-high heat.  Cook about 3-4 minutes per side for either cooking method and then remove from pan and serve with lemon wedges.

  1. There is a Nando’s down my street but I have never tried it! You’ve put the idea in my head to go there for dinner though.

  2. Oh these look tasty! I’m gathering up different chicken recipes, I feel like we make that stuff the same ways all the time. I love how simple this is!

  3. Reading this has made me miss living in the city. Picking up a fresh roasted Portuguese chicken for the family….every weekend. Just can’t find that where we are located now. Will definitely have to find some Nando’s to cook at home.

  4. I’m sooooo psyched to find this recipe! I had a Cameroon friend who made this for me for years, then she moved out of state about 3 years ago, I have been looking for it ever since. Now I can make my own! Thanks!
