Have Fun with a Mattel Game Night #GameOnParty

Mattel wants to bring back family game night, and I love it!  What is more fun then getting together as a family and playing games?  It’s also easy on the wallet compared to going out with your family for other activities; Bonus!

I was asked to host a Mattel Game Night party and share our experience with you.

I was sent a kit that was personalized to my Gameology sign. What’s a Gameology sign you ask? Mattel recently launched the Gameology Facebook App which determines your “game sign” –  your sign tells you what type of player you are and which games fit you best. Are you an Activius with great physical prowess and a preference for games that require your hands? Or are you a patient Strategicorn who believes in waiting for the right moment in the game to strike?  I found out that my “Gameology Sign” is Strategicorn!

The kit included an amazing selection of games along with everything we needed for a fun time including a party checklist, napkins, bottle openers, and fortune cookies.

GameOn

I decided to get together with my immediate family – my mom, dad, sister, brother and his fiance for a BBQ and family game night.  (Free of my husband and daughter, this mom needed a break!)  Unfortunately we got rained out and had to stay inside but my dad managed to get the hamburgers done and get inside just before the rain started.  Mmmm Hamburgers!

After we had some time to digest our food we got out the games and started to play!

angrybirds

The first game we brought out was Angry Birds.  It is meant for younger players I think (5 and up), but we still actually had a lot of fun building the structures as per specifications or freestyle.  Some of the cards were pretty difficult and required re-building.  We weren’t so good at using the sling shot to pummel the pigs with the birds.

Apples to Apples

The next game was the controversial (in our house) Apples to Apples.  My brother is a big board game fan and actually had Apples to Apples but disliked it and gave it away.  I don’t know why he doesn’t like it, it was actually fun to play – and hilarious!  He wouldn’t admit to enjoying playing it with us, although he did play two full games with us!  I liked how simple the instructions and rules were, its a lot more fun when games are easy to learn to play.

Pictionary Dice

We also played Pictionary in a can and everyone really loved the concept and how portable the game is.  It’s all the fun of regular pictionary without the giant box.  Curly bird turned out to be the easy choice… and bald boy quite difficult.  Who would have known.

Uno & Phase 10Finally we played a match of Uno and then a match of Phase 10.  It was kind of funny because we used to have Uno and loved it and played it pretty often.  We all thought we knew how to play, but out came the instructions for a quick refresher.  It did come back pretty easily.

Thanks to Mattel, it was a great night of good food, company and fun.  We are already planning to get together and do it again soon.  I was really pleased with how spot on the Gameology app was as the games definitely fit my personality (and that of my family as well.)
