Every Day is Earth Day with Lavish & Lime

Lavish and Lime

With Earth Day quickly approaching on April 22nd, green living is being buzzed about everywhere.  I think it’s wonderful that the Earth is getting so much attention but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all took steps everyday to help preserve our planet?  Vancouver based Eco-Boutique, Lavish & Lime, thinks “we should mind the earth every day” and has a wide selection of high quality and fabulously affordable products for Eco-conscious families.

When it comes to lunch related waste, the fact that it has been estimated that an average elementary pupil can generate up to 30 kgs of garbage per school year alone, is almost unbelievable.    Did you know that plastic drinking straws are considered one of the “dirty dozen” of debris found most frequently to be polluting the oceans.   I hadn’t realised that plastic straws are easily mistaken for worms – a choking hazard for birds and other marine life.   Lavish & Lime - Stainless Steel StrawThankfully Lavish & Lime offers an alternative to those looking to make choices that can make a real difference when it comes to lunch waste.

I was sent a few items from Lavish & Lime to help us on our way to waste-free lunches just in time for Earth Day including Stainless Steel Straws, a reusable sandwich wrap and a pack of Lunchbots Rounds Stainless Steel Screw Top Food Storage Containers.

Among other reusable straws, Lavish & Lime carries polished 18/8 stainless steel straws.  You don’t have to worry about these straws ending up in the ocean as they are 100% recyclable.  What I love the most though is that since they are made from stainless steel they are also  free of BPA, phthalates and other toxins – better for your family and better for the environment.   I don’t have to worry when letting Keira sip from these straws!

You can see my straw here in a really tall glass, they are recommended for use in a tumbler or for a child’s drink but they even do well in my favourite glass size.  (I just hate getting up for re-fills!)  I’ve also been packing one with my own lunch everyday as I prefer to pack a waste-free lunch for myself.  Quite a few of my co-workers noticed the straws and commented on them – they certainly do make a statement!

This set includes four straws plus a straw cleaning brush so you never have to worry about what might be lurking up there around the bend.

Lavish & Lime - Waste Free Lunch

The Lunchbots Rounds Stainless Steel Screw Top Food Storage Containers I received were immediately put to work to pack one of my favourite lunch snacks… cottage cheese!  I loved how easily the lids screw on and off thanks to the ridges and that none of my cottage cheese escaped into my lunch bag – a common problem I have with other containers.  These containers would perfecting for packing yogurt, fruit salad, salad dressing and pretty much anything else you can think of.  I found they are the perfect size to pack a side for my lunch as well – just the right amount of potato salad fits in it. Yum!

Like the stainless steel straws, the lunchbots containers are made from 18/8 stainless steel with a BPA-free lid with silicone seals.   There is no worry about chemicals leaching into your food from these containers and they could be a real money saver since they look and feel durable enough to be used for a long time to come.

Lavish & Lime - Reusable Sandwich Wrap

Last but definitely not least in the package I received is the Reusable Sandwich Wrap.   One wrap can be used over and over again for months on end, removing the need to buy plastic baggies – helping you to save both money and the environment.  This wrap doesn’t stop there either as it doubles as a place mat providing a more sterile eating environment then folds back up easily with  velcro.  Although the wraps interior is made of a thicker grade of the same plastic as plastic sandwich bags I still feel like it is a great option compared to the amount of plastic bags one of these reusable sandwich wraps replace.  Thanks to the plastic interior it is also easy to wipe down between uses – making this mom’s life just that much easier.
