So awhile ago I wrote a post explaining pretty briefly 4 easy ways to save big on your telecommunications bills. I want to expand further on the one point: price comparison and haggling to lower your bills.
I know a lot of people don’t do this. Some because they are too lazy but most because they don’t know or believe that they can haggle for the price of their services with even major telecommunications companies! This is just unbelievable to me as there are major savings to be had for the consumer who takes this step!
To start you need to evaluate your current services. Look at your bill and find out what you are paying for. Then go online and research at least 2 other companies serving your area. Do the major competitor as well as a smaller company. Look for pricing on something similar to what you currently have. Is it cheaper? Write down the details of these packages.
The next thing you need to do is to call your current provider and tell them you are considering switching to another company if they are unable to match the competitors pricing. If need be ask for the “Save” or “Retention” department as regular agents will be unable to get you the really sweet back pocket deals the company has just for this situation.
From experience you can get perks like free North American long distance, $ off your current services, free equipment rentals etc…
To find out if you are being given a good deal try searching the internet for the current retention offers for your provider. Often people will share their deals in forums. This should give you a good idea about the savings you can look forward to.
This will work for Mobile, Cable, Satellite, Land-line, and Internet providers!
So I challenge you all to do this and come back and share what kind of savings you were able to get!
